Why do you think the Bible says that tattoos are wrong?

What is the deeper meaning behind WHY they are wrong?

“You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.”
-Leviticus 19:28

A side question: Do you think it’s wrong for Christians today to have tattoos?

It's desecration of the temple of God. It's unlawful. Christians can have tattos, if they had them before they came to Christ, but after you become a Christian, you shouldn't be marking yourself, nor desecrating the temple.

Why does there need to be a 'deeper meaning'? (Lev. 19) is clear.

If you're getting tattoos as a Christian, then know it is wrong. Can and will God forgive you for it...of course.

But know this. Don't ever try and convice yourself it is right. Don't deceive yourself. Understand that the reason you got a tattoo was because you are a rotten sinner. God doesn't like them but you did it anyway. You cared more for your will then God's will.

We are all as guilty as hell. Own up to it. Don't try and make your sins palatable to God.

My opinion.

The reason I’m interested in the deeper meaning is because I’m wondering about what it might mean when tattoos are in a dream. I’m wondering what it might symbolize in dreams.

Everything has deeper meanings.

Christians are not 'under the Law'. That doesn't mean the Law has no application for the Christian. It most certainly does.

Throughout the Law and the whole Old Testament, the Christian learns something of the mind of God. Learns something of God.

Just because Jesus Christ has paid and fulfilled the Law on our behalf, doesn't mean the Law was not true concerning God. It doesn't mean God has changed His mind concerning tattoos.

The most that Gentiles were under were the Noahide laws. The Levitical laws applied only to the Lévites.

The Levitical laws, the Law of Moses applied to all of Israel.

After Christ's Crucifixion and resurrection, even the Jews were no longer under the Law.

I disagree. Not everything has a 'deeper meaning'. Somethings are clear...cut and dried'

Tattoos seem like a bad idea in general.

Do you remember what the tattoos were? That may be where your deeper meaning lies, not whether or not they're okay for a Christian to have.

Yea, it was the fine print, like on a warning label. Weird for a tattoo.

When we were kids we did the temporary tattoos, i think some came in Cracker Jack boxes. We also pretended to smoke with candy cigarettes.

It's funny that there is always people trying to push you back under the law of which the requirements of said law were fulfilled by Jesus. By sinning, you broken the law and any attempt to follow any part of it is of no effect because breaking any one part of it equals breaking all of it. The law was put into place for two reasons: exposing our sin and Jesus' righteousness. Having the requirements of the law fulfilled by Jesus is not nor should ever be seenas a license to sin but to make it out that you got to do this or that or else is dishonest and goes agaisnt everything the message of the gospel is all about.

But if you’re walking in the spirit, you won’t indulge in the lusts of the flesh. The law is still there as a moral guide. If you’re stealing, murdering and deceiving people, then you’re probably walking according to the flesh. So if you’re getting tattoos, wouldn’t that also be an immoral work of the flesh?
