Can Santa and Jesus co-exist during the holidays? Or should we only promote Jesus and not the fake Santa Claus with all his magical powers?

Yes, they can play Santa unless they're out living on the streets being bad Santa and scaring little children :rofl3:

I know that Santa distracts us from Jesus but it is also fun to think about receiving gifts and knowing it is because you were good all year. We want to be rewarded I think and have that attention and Santa, he's the man to do that for us. What egos humans have!

You know, I "get" it..... I've read a number of posts and articles over the years - not only from Christians concerned about giving kids FALSE ideas about Christmas (and perhaps undermining them as they ALSO talk about God) and from secular folks just concerned bout lying to kids. I get it.

But frankly, I think their concern is likely not valid. I was embraced in the whole santa thing as a kid, and it didn't ruin me (well, MAYBE that IS the reason!). Kids live in a fantasy world, I think if anything, it enriches them (BTW, seen adults at a Star Wars Movie?)

And of we know this all comes out of traditions about St. Nick and giving. THAT by the way is how my parents told me about Santa (after my brother spilled the beans) - that while a lot of "fun traditions" were put around it, there's a true story about a bishop long ago, a Christian pastor, who gave gifts. AND I was told about the Magi.

But I'm no "Dr. Phil." Not even a parent.

Even the misconception of Christmas is a good thing. We are to be giving. Santa is giving. Unfortunately, society revolves around the procurement of gifts as opposed to the giving there of.

Faith in selfless Unity for Good.

I told my daughter about St. Nick too!

I personally think Santa and Jesus can play a part in the holiday season, just like I love snowmen too ;) I love the Advent songs at church leading up to the birth of our Lord and then I used to love leading the choir on Christmas Eve services! As you get older, gifts aren't as important as when you're young. I wouldn't mind going a Christmas without gifts just to be around my family who live far away.

I love the ornaments of Santa kneeling at Jesus' cradle.

I dont hold to Christ being born at Christmas but I dont see anything wrong with Santa as a symbol of giving and selflessness

I indulged my children when they were tiny, but I also read the story of St. Nick to them.

I don't think its a problem. I had a roommate that played Santa and he is a Christian.
