Looking at Matthew chapter 2, verse 13.
Is there biblical evidence that guardian angels exist? If so, do they help each of us only if we pray and believe in Jesus as Saviour?

Many people take angels for granted as real but invisible. The term is used freely as if they come to us in times of trouble in various guises. Books have been written about those who claim to be in contact with them. Hard to believe.

Yet usually when angels appear in the Bible, they produce fear in the hearts of humans. They seem to me to be messengers from heaven at important times.

Guardian angels may exist, but the idea that they materialize or bring important messages is not part of the belief. The few messenger angels referred to in Scripture as having been seen are traditionally thought to be archangels, not angels, and not guardian angels.

Incidentally, the idea of messenger angels instilling fear seems wrong. Gabriel didn't produce fear by telling Mary that she would be the mother of Jesus, nor did the angel at Christ's tomb who told the women that Jesus had risen and no longer was entombed.

The Psalmist waxed eloquent on the subject:

Psa 91:9-12
Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, (10) No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; (11) For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. (12) In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Fear fell upon Zacharias:

Luk 1:11-12 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. (12) And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

It's stretch to think that what those verses tell us confirms the idea of guardian angels, however.

I do believe that we believers have guardian angels. And, I believe their ministry begins the moment we are born on earth, long before we have come to saving faith. Why?

Because God knows those who are His. And, I can't help but believe that satan knows also and observes, and attempts to kill any before they come to a saving faith in Christ. (Heb. 1:14) "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

As to the appearance of angels, you have probably seen and talked to some and not known it. (Heb. 13:2) "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
