My mom had some insulated bags and I gave them to my daughter since she has to walk to and from the grocery store...she lives in the city.

I probably could have thrown the cooler into the car but didn't even think about it. Good idea. I've done it when we've gone to other places and I knew it was a long ride home.

Hot day today. I went for a walk and had originally planned to walk or walk/run one of my longer routes but it soon became clear it was too hot for that. Even doing my 5-mile route my pulse seemed much higher than normal. When I got home I took the time to slowly drink a lot of fluid because I was feeling badly dehydrated by then, even though I took my water bottle with me and drank most of it.

This afternoon I just got done lacquering the cabinet I've been sanding these past few days. It's sitting in my garage drying out now. I'm not sure whether I'll give it a second coat - for best results it really wants two coats but it's going in the basement so it doesn't really matter if it doesn't look pristine. Chances are I'll give it the one coat and move it. I'm just not sure how I'm going to move it, it's quite unwieldy. I've got a hand cart but need to consider the size and what corners it will fit around without breaking stuff, as well as which steps I want to take it up. There's a fair chance it's going to end up having to go round the outside of the house to avoid tight corners. I can use a ratchet strap to hold it to the cart, so I should be able to move it single-handed.

Once it's in the basement I just need to figure out how high I want it and how best to make legs for it. Then I can put a work surface over the top of it. I might put another smaller unit above it and mount a light strip to the underside of the smaller unit. I really want a bright light over my work surface, but ideally positioned so I'm not looking directly at it for any length of time. It will be good to get a decent workspace that I can actually use, with storage space so I have somewhere to put unfinished projects without leaving my workspace cluttered.

If "camping" means staying in an RV it's easy enough. Or you go somewhere cooler, like maybe the Sahara desert.

I'm drinking coffee watching the rain. I had hoped to move my cabinet today but it's almost certainly going to need to go around the front of the house and I don't feel like battling with it in this weather. Partly because I don't want it to get wet and partly because I don't want to wheel my hand cart through the puddles on the driveway and then across my floor. So it can stay there a while longer.

Perhaps I'll move some stuff out of the way of where I plan to put it - at present about all that's in the way is my shop vac and separator. I already moved the stack of wood leaning against the doorway I need to go through so the path is mostly cleared. I've got most of an 8x4 sheet of 2" thick insulation down there as well, which I'll need to rehome. But it looks like my dream of having a useful work surface is close to becoming a reality, which is nice.

I got my cabinet moved to the basement. It was an interesting process. I tried to get it through the shortest route only to find I got stuck almost right away, so I put it back in the garage. Then it stopped raining so I moved a bunch of stuff from the porch and moved it around the house to there. Once I had it inside the house I could close everything up again so weather wasn't a problem, and all I had to do was weave it through the house and down the stairs to the basement. There are two doors that lead to the basement, slightly offset from each other. It was just about narrow enough to get through both of them, which meant I just had to wheel my hand cart down the steps while barely able to see what I was doing and trying not to let go at any time. At the bottom of the stairs I had to turn it quite hard and pull it over a door sill.

But I got there, and now the cabinet is in the room where I want it, and my car is back in the garage. Now I just need to figure the best way to raise the cabinet to the level I want it to be and make sure it's level enough for a work surface on the top of it to be useful. I might need to do something creative with sawdust and lacquer to fill the small gap between the boards on the top of it, so I don't find small parts drop into the cabinet from above.

My cabinet is now on legs, with the bottom braced, a small bar across the back to stop things rolling off, and has an LED strip light mounted over it. I'm pleased with how it has turned out. When the price of lumber drops to something more sensible I may yet come up with something that hangs it on wall studs rather than supporting it on the floor, because the floor is so uneven I had to work with a serious dose of "good enough" when cutting the legs and even then had to bang a wedge under one of the legs when it turned out there was a lump in the floor I hadn't spotted, leaving one leg slightly too short and mis-angled when I shuffled the unit back ever so slightly.

I want to do a little rejigging of the electrics there, so I can run both strip lights off the light switch. At present the cords won't reach where I need them to go, so the light over my work cabinet is plugged in to a nearby socket and I have to operate it manually. I'd really rather just have everything come on when I flick the switch. More specifically I'd like everything to go off when I flick the switch on the way out. Maybe that can be tomorrow's job, I don't think I have to move very much or very far, and I've got a few offcuts of 14/2 that should work very nicely.

Had hoped for a walk today but the rain put paid to that idea. I may get to do a walk later tonight to get the last of the steps I need for the day. I did get a load of stuff shuffled around in the basement, and gained some extra storage space. That means I can move stuff out of a unit I really want to be rid of. Once that's done I've got another interesting task to get that moved up the stairs and out through a limited space. At least with something I don't want any more I can break it up if it comes to that.

Shuffling stuff around the basement, figuring out how best to use all the new storage space I've created. I just want to make sure I use it efficiently rather than finding all the random stuff that got dumped in one place ends up getting dumped in all my new storage and then the old storage goes away.

The biggest problem I have is that so many things need small boxes, and shelving often doesn't work very well for those. Where I've got things like spare blades for my Stanley knife, packets of sandpaper etc, they don't lend themselves to stacking very well because I need to be able to get at any one of them, and it's hard to find shelves that are small enough that it doens't end up wasting most of the space. I'm trying to figure a way to hang them on something, but without ruining the sides of my units.
