Had some errands to run in town last night so took the chance to stop by the brewpub and check out their latest creation. I wasn't sure what I'd think of it but it was actually really good. As it turned out the brewer was in the front of house, so we had a brief chat with him and he gave us a taster of another one of his creations that's due to be tapped in the next few weeks. That will be another one to look forward to.

I managed to get my replacement floor joist into place. It was easier than I expected - cutting it to length is easy enough and then it was just a question of getting joist hangers around it and nailed into place. I had hoped to drive screws through from one side but I'd have needed 7-8" construction grade screws, not to mention the ability to levitate over my oil tanks. So I went for a joist hanger at either end.

Sixteen nails later I'd only managed to hit my fingers once. But I did it properly, I managed to hit two adjacent fingernails with one blow.

Here's a tip to anyone using a hammer. Don't hit your fingernails. It isn't fun.

Yo sup there! How are ye all doing today? Today, just playing some games on my phone with the AC on because my area will be in a heatwave starting from last night and it's especially muggy today before dozing off tonight.

Sunny day today so got the grass cut. I'd rather have been out walking but don't want to have to force the mower through tall grass as that gets really tedious. I'll most likely do my walk around town this evening when the heat of the day has subsided.

One of the fingers I hit with the hammer is OK now. The other is still a bit tender. There's a reason I prefer to use screws to nails...

Did a short walk because I have things to do around the house before we go out to eat since it's my husband's Friday off.

I just got back from a few hours in the woods. It's been too long since I was in the woods. There was a volunteer work day to clear a trail - it's not a trail I use regularly but figured it doesn't hurt to help clear trails as well as the ones I use. It was fun.

Howdy sup there! How's it going so far with your day? This morning, I've just had my usual 3 hours weekly therapy session both online and by phone, plus have seen my psychiatrist today for about an hour and a half today too. The afternoon, just resting in bed before rocking myself to sleep tonight.

Hello afternoon all! How's it going so far with your day? This morning, I've just had a hair wash and a shower. The afternoon, just playing some games on my phone before lulling myself to sleep tonight.

Finally finished sanding the big cabinet that's been sitting in the garage for weeks now. After noticing the new belt I put on a few hours of sanding back had worn itself out I replaced it, then found it was too coarse for the job and left a few scratches. But it got the last of the crud off, which was good. Then I put a finer belt on the sander and went over everything again, and then gave it some time with a random orbital sander.

Now the unit is still sitting in the garage with the doors put back on it, just waiting for me to clear a space in the basement for it. I'll need to clear a path to get it through to where I want it, and figure the best way to get it from the garage through the house and down the basement stairs. It's not particularly heavy but is unwieldy.

I had planned to put studs on the wall in the basement and screw the cabinet to the wall but having just seen the price of lumber I think I'll make some short legs for it instead. It's not quite as clean but is hugely cheaper. The wall studs I wanted to put in place would have taken $50 worth of wood and I'd still most likely have needed a couple of legs for the unit. With any luck I can make the legs from offcuts I've got floating about.

Got up early to get groceries and hoping nothing melts on the way home in this heat.

My wife found a couple of insulated shopping bags. I forget where she bought them - maybe Aldi - but they seem to work pretty well. If she's getting frozen stuff this time of year she often takes our large cooler with her. It means that on the days she can't get everything in one store she doesn't have to worry about stuff getting ruined while she's parked outside the other.

It also means she can buy things to get the best quality and price rather than being stuck with only going to one store and paying through the nose for everything. It's remarkable how much cheaper it is to shop outside of the major chains.
