Yes, but do you believe in a young earth (6000 years) or an older earth?

Read the post linked above....

I'd TEND to lean toward "old" but I'm not dogmatic.

I think that describes me, too.

I believe the Earth is about 7,000 years old.

I highly recommend Kent Hovind’s 7-part Creation Seminar. It does a good job of explaining scientific reasons why the Earth is young (young compared to billions of years).

I do not claim I know or have certainty. I think that life on this earth, and the form to it, is thousands but not billions (American or British meaning) of years old, but the universe with the unformed planet that is now the Earth for us could actually be thousands of millions of years old. I still believe the Bible account then. There could be gaps in genealogy lists that might even be hundreds of years all together, but not many thousands or millions of years. It is not compatible with evolution of all life, as God made everything and it was all very good (the only place in the Bible anything is called that) and it was without suffering and death, as described, and the perfect goodness and power of God made it that way. Still the world before the acts of creation described in the account was formless, so it could have been there much longer than how long ago there was that creation week remaining formless. The evidences for the universe having been around for so much longer are too strong for me to see that can just be dismissed. But I can see dismissing evolution as nothing for it is overwhelming in evidence for me, that cannot be accounted for with perfect creation from God as described.

The creation of this world then happened in the week of creation more than half a dozen thousand years ago, with the light and all the llife made for this world then, but the unformed chaos was here already well before that, from the start of God's creation. Life when it was created here was with no death or killing, as that is God's perfect will. So God's perfect will for us would not have us involved in killing, but doing what work we can do for life.

Is the earth young or old? First we have to know what young and old are defined as. I would say 6000 years is pretty old. Since time is relative, the universe could be, and seems to be if calculated distances to stars are accurate, a lot older yet only been around as long as the earth has been around--young by our clocks, old by clocks at the far reaches of the universe.

That is a relevant point that something 6000 years old is pretty old, it is still understandable to call the earth that is thousands of years old but not hundreds of thousands or millions or thousands of millions of years old young relative to the earth of those greater ages, which is claimed and seriously considered by many. I won't say those believing one way but not the orher way about the age of the earth are any less Christian believers. Believers generally believe some things wrongly, but they are just as much Christian believers, who are in Christ. Sin separates any of them from God more than believing some things wrongly, as long as they trust in Jesus Christ for their redemption and salvation with coming to God in repentance from sin in their life that had separated them from God.

If time flowed differently in the rest of the universe than it did on Earth it could explain things. Yet how long there was the unformed chaos before God brought light to this world, separated the waters, and the rest, is not known from scripture passages.

I never had liked gap theories I heard. But gaps in genealogies in the Bible is a thing, that is demonstrable. So as history has gone so on so long I can believe that God's creation started hundreds or thousands of years before six thousand years ago.
