CompareOr wives shouldn't have authority over their husbands. It could equally well be translated that way. It also makes more sense of the explanation. If you read 1 Tim 2:16 as about women in general, I think you end up with women not be trustworthy because they are more easily deceived. If you read husband and wife, then he might have meant that Adam didn't exercize his proper role as head of the family by using his own judgement.
Personally, I think 1 Tim wasn't by Paul, and 1 Tim 2 is frankly anti-woman, but if you want to avoid that I think my suggestion is the best way.
Isaiah 3
To
[ 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.]
Particularly verse 12
Verse 14 I've witnessed from a female pastor of a congregational branch that is no longer holding services.
During One particular sermon the female pastors words were evidence enough of what ole sh'aul warned about.
