I was hoping to find a theological discussion, but I'm not seeing it. So I'll throw this out there:

Mary is the Theotokos, a Greek word which translates to "god-bearer" or "one who gives birth to God". Catholics tend to translate it to Mother of God.

Do you agree that Mary is the Theotokos? Do you believe she is the Mother of God?

I suggest you start a new thread on that specific issue - and do nothing to suggest it's limited to Catholics.

For a few scant verses, this obsession with Mary is out of proportion..

Seems to me that the obsessed are the folk who keep bringing up the topic for debate.

I guess when a church makes a doctrine there will be questions about it. You should not be surprised that Cathiolics are called on to explain this

I do not spend much time asking Word of Faith folk why they baptise by submersion but it is one of their doctrines isn't it? Frankly, if folk do not want to pray to Blessed Mary the solution is very simple, don't do it.

Tallguy (a Catholic) brought up the title of "Mary - Mother of God" in THIS forum.

For him/her, I created a separate thread - and quickly revealed no one much cares about such things, one way or the other... it seems to be a "controversy" mostly in the imagination of Catholics.

.

You are not the OP. And the OP states nothing about what this thread is limited to. I thought it was a discussion about Mary. So in an attempt to get the thread back on topic, I posted about Mary.

I don't check in everyday. My posting elsewhere takes up the majority of my posting time.

Relax. I made a SUGGESTION.... I think it good. And it seems to have worked. When properly presented, this issue doesn't tend to be very divisive or controversal.

Forgive me.

What's next?

We could try "baptismal regeneration" (that's a Calvinist sort of name for it) ...
