Got to spend some more time dismantling a kitchen today. I marveled at just how many nails held a single wall unit in place. It was notionally held to the wall with two screws, but had so many other things nailed and screwed to it that the only way I could get it off the wall was to use a carbide oscillating blade to cut through a bunch of things surrounding it. But eventually I got it off the wall, and it's now sitting on the floor with the one that was once beside it on the wall. Along the way I ripped a load of trim off the wall, much of which is now cut into little pieces in a bag of wood scraps that a friend of mine will one day burn to keep his (outdoor) workshop warm.
Then this evening I set to dismantling some boxing on the adjacent wall. I'll need to take it down so I can get the next couple of wall units off, which I need to remove to get at the window trim. I never thought I'd have to dismantle virtually the entire room just to get at the window trim, but there you have it. I can reuse the wall units in the basement, which will be handy. And having that light I rigged up recently makes a huge difference, as does having a power socket where I can keep the shop vac out of the way and still keep my work area reasonably clean.
I wish there was a market for old nails. I'd be incredibly wealthy by now.
