What was your biggest “I’ll walk it off” injury that turned out serious?
Nothing that turned out to be particularly serious but a couple that were a little more than I first thought.
A few years ago I was cycling on a country road, turned a corner at a junction and came face to face with a jogger. As we tried to avoid each other we ended up going the same way and collided. When I picked myself up I found it interesting that we were both more concerned that the other was OK, although later I found I'd scraped all down the side of one leg where the bike went down with me still on it. Nothing serious, but not an entirely pleasant surprise when hot water and soap found it in the shower after my ride.
Then was the time I slipped on ice while hiking in the mountains and landed on my rear end (some would say I was fortunate to land on a well padded area). Thankfully it happened on a section of flat rocks but I still had half a mile of loose jagged rocks to cross to get back to a dirt road, part of which I ended up practically crawling along (literally, using both hands and both feet) because I knew a similar slip/fall would be really nasty on such a hard and uneven surface. When I got to the dirt road I discovered that in my attempt to right myself I hit my hand against something (presumably a tree) and ripped a load of skin from my fingers.
