Does abstract art have any place in Christianity or is it a sin to create abstract art? Most art depicted in the Bible (as far as I remember) was inspired by God's creation (cherubs, pomegranates in the Temple, for example). Maybe I might be overlooking something, but I can't recall anything abstract being mentioned as art in the Bible. Something tells me that abstract art is just another way in which satan twists and perverts God's creation, but I've found this video of this professor of Christian studies named Jerram Barrs which seems to support abstract art:

What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you think abstract art can glorify God in any direct way?

I don't see any problem in abstract art. Here is a pretty good definition Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

I don't see anything against God or Christianity in that description so if you feel inclined to work with colors and shapes then go for it :)

I don't see anything wrong with abstract art. The fact it isn't mentioned in the Bible doesn't mean it's prohibited - you won't find mention of fractals anywhere in Scripture. You also won't find mention of calculus, quantum mechanics, probability theory etc, nor will you find mention of motor vehicles, air transportation, residential electrical supplies, water purification, hydroelectric power stations and numerous other things we take for granted today. You won't find any mention of people wearing blue hats on a Thursday but it would be silly to say we aren't allowed to wear blue hats on Thursdays because the Bible doesn't explicitly say we may.

As a rule I personally don't care for abstract art but wouldn't say there's anything sinful about creating it or enjoying it.

There is no prohibition against abstract art in the Bible. But, if it bothers your conscious then don't view it
