I remembered I have an oscillating tool with a sanding pad attachment. It turned out to be pretty useful at getting into the corners of my floor, and equally useful for getting at the awkward edges where the floorboards don't quite align. It's perhaps not as clean as a floor sander would be but also it's a lot less destructive. So now I can get right up to the edges, into the corners and into more of the nooks and crannies.

I also took the scraper and belt sander to a piece of the baseboard I want to reuse. I'm planning on re-staining it because it's a bit scratched up. Everything came off remarkably easily and having given it a first run with the sander it looks like a nice piece of wood. I'll have to stain it in the room because it's too big to carry out (not sure how it got in there in the first place), so I'll need to protect the floor. The other pieces are smaller so I can stain and lacquer those elsewhere. It's good to know the scraper will rip the varnish and stain off without wrecking the wood.

I've got some fine belts for the sander so I can give it a quick once-over with a more gentle grain, to avoid having visible scratches in the wood when it gets put into place.

How do you guys find a Zoom meeting with multiple active participants works? I've found once the group gets over about 4-5 people it's increasingly difficult to avoid people talking over each other, especially if there's a bit of lag in the system.
Well, we have only 6 other people in the group I led last Sunday, so it wasn't hard. Everyone had at least an opportunity to talk if they wanted to.
At work we have a meeting agenda so it is much easier to know when it is your turn to speak.

It seems like it would work better if there's a designated leader who asks people for updates in turn. During a meeting like that it probably works to mute everybody except the person who is talking.

Something more social doesn't work so well if it's purely a question of taking turns, but at least nobody gets fired for talking over other people :)

My husband is working from home today so I can't do much around the house because I need to be quiet while he's on calls.

Sinuses a bit messed up this morning from the dust yesterday - I've been stripping and sanding baseboards and trying to get the last quirky bits of the floor seen to. I've got enough pieces of baseboard to cover most of the wall stripped and sanded now, preserving the original wood even if not the original stain. Looking at what I have I think I'm only going to be short by a couple of pieces. One piece might match a short section I took off the wall, I'm just reluctant to use it because the ends are a bit manky and if I cut the ends off to clean it up I'll end up with something that's maybe an inch too short or something. Then there's another piece where I took out a door, so would prefer to have a single piece of wood to span the gap and get to the end of the wall, rather than having three pieces of baseboard along one wall.

I'm very close to saying the floor is as good as it's every going to be, and preparing to lacquer it as it is.

I use AYR brand sinus spray. Works better than any other.

There's my commercial for the day :D

I have some improbable number of generic loratadine tablets kicking around in the bathroom. Branded versions seem to run anything up to about $7 for 7 tablets but one time I found what looked like an incorrect price at Walmart. It was something like 100 tablets for $1.99 - so low I had the assistant confirm the price. Anyway, since then my allergies toned themselves down hugely so I very seldom use the tablets, which means I have a pile of them on hand. They seem to work.

All I need is something to stop the sneezing long enough that people don't assume I'm about to die if I go into a store.

Another walk in the sun this morning, passing virtually no people at all. Then a trip to the hardware store to get some more sanding pads, and now I've got a fun afternoon of more sanding to look forward to. I can also check my electrical back boxes in the holes cut in the baseboards for the old sockets, and look at cutting holes for where the new sockets are going.

Hopefully the weather won't be as bad as the forecast says for the next several days because I'm going to need to stain and lacquer the baseboards, and then lacquer the entire floor. Most of the baseboard work can be done elsewhere but obviously I can't take the floor away to lacquer it, and if it's raining hard it's not really an option to open the windows. I may end up using a big fan to suck air out of the room and up into the attic, where it can escape through the roof. Not ideal but depending on how long the forecast says it will rain I may end up with little other option.

Not much happening today because of the rain. It looks like I"m going to have to strip, sand and refinish more of my woodwork, which is disappointing. Removing large nails from it has caused a few splinters - nothing horrible but enough to mean it really needs to be refinished to look nice.

Today was our day to hand out the meals to kids again. That was interesting, in the rain. This afternoon the fun is almost at fever pitch, as I'm trying to strip and sand smaller pieces that don't stay still under their own weight, and figure out how to make a hole in a piece of wood ever so slightly bigger, without trashing anything. Maybe I'll make a start on staining today as well.

It's my husband's day off today. Maybe today or this weekend we'll order some take out. I'm going outside for some walking now since the rain stopped. The baby foxes are out and I went out earlier and they just stopped doing what they were doing to watch me. As much as I would love to get closer I don't want them to get too used to people since many will shoot them.

Went out for my walk today. My wife's legs weren't feeling up to a walk this morning so I went solo, at a faster pace. Not a blistering pace, but enough to give my system a good workout. When I walk with her my pulse only briefly flickers over about 130; when I walk solo I hold it about 130-150 for a good chunk of the walk and usually max out somewhere around 160-170.

Not a hugely productive afternoon. Got some recording done at church for Sunday's upload, then went to visit a friend for a couple of hours, then had a long Zoom meeting with a couple of friends abroad. No progress whatsoever on the room I'm working on. I can do that tomorrow. I have enough wood to do most of it, and can hopefully get more on Monday. If needs be I've got a couple more small pieces I can roll into action, although I'd really rather not have to use them.
