When I think of Halloween and horror movies I'm always faced with the inevitable question that us Christians do think of and that is this... What would Jesus do? I wonder... What kind of horror movies and Halloween practices would Jesus like, or be involved in? Please tell me because I can't think of a single one. Can you?

How about the one where demons are cast out ? :) I bet he'd like that type of one.

Remember, it's not me that you have to answer to. It's God. If you can honestly pass this one by Him, go for it. I doubt He'd buy it either though.
By-the-way, at least two members here mentioned having nightmares after watching horror movies. I don't recall ever reading in God's word that people had nightmares after Jesus cast out demons.
I'm just trying to help, that's all. :)

Question: Should Christians be involved with Halloween? Here's a good article for everyone's edification. It's quite short, but be sure to read the whole page because a former witch writes the second half.

Personally I am not involved but I also have seen the great debate which is why I dont really answer much in this thread but yes, I think it should be avoided

Testimony =
I use to be a big fan of the movie "Silence of the Lambs" (Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster). I thought that movie was awesome! However, the more I grew as a Christian, the movie started to bother me more and more. Finally the conviction of the Holy Spirit came on me so strong that I knew I had to get rid of that movie, and others. I decided that if it is offensive in the eyes of God, then it is offensive to me too. My heart's desire is to please Him in every way that I can. I'm not perfect, but moving forward. No movie is that important to me so as to raise a conflict in my spirit against God. I choose to love Him more than I love anything else. It's not legalism either, it's relationship. When you truly love someone, do you not want to please them? Of course you want to please them. I just know in my heart that there are some things that do not belong in a Christian's life, and horror movies and Halloween are two of them. This is my Holy Spirit led conviction. Of course, you are in charge of yourself and walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Please pray about this and see what God is telling you. Meanwhile, I'll be praying for you with this passage of scripture: Colossians 1:9-14 NKJV.

"For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins."

There is another passage that I pray for myself, and I encourage you to do the same... Psalm 139:23-24 NKJV.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

By-the-way, I have both of these posted on my wall right next to my desk for quick reference. Good idea! :)

Has anyone been watching any scary or creepy movies yet?

I saw a few but they haven't scared me. I guess the scarier ones are reserved for when it gets closer to Halloween?

I do not like recent horror films with the exception of films like "warm bodies". Old horror films are kind of amusing and entertaining.

The fascination with horror movies saddens me. I am disappointed to see it here among Christian believers.

It's entertainment. We like to watch the battle between good and bad. We like the suspense and surprise of not knowing what is about to happen next. We like the creativity in realistic costumes and make up. Those who watch horror movies aren't being sinful.

Insidious 3 and Uninvited creeped me out.
They're the most recent horror flicks I've watched.

Shutter and The Grudge are waaay scarier though - they're in my top 5 horror films. Also Asian horror films are more scary than American horror movies. :)

That being said, I only watch those when I'm with my friends or family and when it's daylight. :D

Aren't Asian horror stories more mind-messing with suspense instead of the American gore? We get so used to seeing blood and guts all the time that it doesn't make a difference anymore.

Remember that the movie Psycho was once a great thriller and now people laugh at it.

When I was a kid, "The Exorcist" came out, and people were getting physically ill in the theaters...today's audiences would yawn at such effects.

Possession films are kind of creepy even if they are old.

I know. Today we have so much stuff on tv with blood, gore, violence that we are immune to it. Back then though, it was scary stuff for folks.

Jaws used to be a really scary movie too. LOVE Shark week on tv!
