“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the Truth.”
– Rom 1:16-18

What IS the Gospel?

“Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom”
– Matt 4:23

What Gospel did Jesus preach?

“Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
- Mark 1:14-15

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Jesus never preached to the crowds that He would die for our sins. He didn’t even tell His closest disciples until near the end of His ministry that He was to be crucified. So, what “Gospel” did Jesus preach and declare we must believe in? What is this “Gospel of the Kingdom” that our Lord DID speak about? Do Repentance and Righteousness and Inheritance, which Jesus emphasized greatly in His teaching fit into this “Gospel of the Kingdom”?

We hear often that the Gospel must be preached to all the earth and then the end shall come. And most seem to believe that this means we must strive to get everyone to believe in the Atonement so they can accept Jesus, be forgiven and saved, because if they don’t, they will end up in hell. Hmmm…

Personally, I believe a brief look at the context of Jesus’ declaration about “this Gospel” gives us deeper insight on what He actually meant. And again, this Truth was given, not to the masses, but only to His closest disciples -

“Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”

- Matt 24:3-14

“This gospel” refers to what He said in the preceding verses. There is no mention of His dying for our sins here. Can we believe our Lord’s “good news” concerning tribulation, persecution and testing of our faith, that we might obtain “salvation” if we endure?

Just dropping a couple thoughts here, as I prepare to take some time looking into the “Gospel” and what it is that Jesus told us to “believe in.”

God’s Wisdom and Understanding to us all,
Michael

Beginning a study looking at the Gospel.

What IS the Gospel, that Jesus, the Apostles and Prophets taught. What is this "Gospel of the Kingdom" that Jesus told us to "repent and believe in"?

If forgiveness of sins is not a part of your gospel then it is a false gospel and one good reason why you are restricted from posting in the Christian Theology forum of this site.

Apparently you haven't watched the video. ;)

But as well... if Righteousness, Repentance and Obedience are not part of the Gospel you're believing in, then you're in grave deception.

I cannot lessen the Gospel for any man, or any denominations understanding.

[John 3:16-21 NASB] 16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 "For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 "But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."

[Romans 10:8-11 NASB] 8 But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."

[Ephesians 2:1-10 NASB] 1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, [it is] the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

[John 10:27-30 NASB] 27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given [them] to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of the Father's hand. 30 "I and the Father are one."

The word “Gospel” literally means ‘good news’ and, from what I read in scripture, we have a lot of VERY GOOD NEWS from our God to be thankful for.

God’s Wisdom and Understanding to us all,
Michael

The gospel of the kingdom was preached to Israel.....they were to repent because the kingdom on earth was at hand. It did not contain the cross....they had to believe in his name as Messiah, Son of God (John 20:31).
Our gospel was revealed to Paul and it most certainly is the redemption by his death for our sins and resurrection.

This is the gospel by which we are saved.
1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
We are all sinners who can not save ourselves.
See Romans 3:23 Titus 3:5 Romans 5:6

Christ died for our sins; He was our substitute, He paid the full penalty and debt for our sin by his blood sacrifice.
See 2 Corinthians 5:21 Romans 3:24 Romans 3:25 Romans 3:26

He was buried.

He rose again for our justification ( to declare us righteous) and forgiveness of all our sin. He gives us His righteousness and eternal life.
See Romans 4:25 Ephesians 1:7 Romans 4:22 Romans 4:23 Romans 4:24 1 Corinthians 1:30

All we have to do is believe the gospel.
See Romans 4:5 1 Corinthians 1:21 Ephesians 1:13

Believing is being persuaded that something is true.
See Romans 4:21

The moment you believe you have eternal life.
Titus 1:1 Titus 1:2 Titus 3:7

Trust the gospel of your salvation. Believe in Jesus Christ to have provided payment for your sins and to give you eternal life. Place your faith in Jesus Christ, in his blood, his death and his resurrection.
