Speaker Pelosi stated today that the house of representatives will start an impeachment inquiry. Something that more or less had already started as Trump has had six different committees investigating his behavior. Here is the article about it. What do you think?

I think it was stunningly candid of Speaker Pelosi to announce, immediately following her meeting with the rest of the House Democrats, that the reason for starting the impeachment process was to keep President Trump from winning re-election!!!

I also think that after four or so coup attempts have fizzled and the claims fallen flat, the electorate is about finished with entertaining any thought that an impeachment might actually be about something other than what Pelosi said today.

IMO, there's a good chance of that happening. One of the networks reported on an interesting sidelight to this development. It was that freshman Democrats in normally Republican districts have until now been reluctant to come out for impeachment for fear that it would make them look too partisan. So that fact would seem to verify your thinking.

But with the advent of this rather silly, contrived, and extraordinarily weak Ukraine thing, many of them rushed to say "impeach." Why?

It's because they fear even more being challenged in the Democratic primary elections by extremists in their own party who would paint them as soft on Trump if they had not announced their support for impeachment. So Pelosi accommodated them and they in turn jumped at the first opportunity to justify their change of heart, despite this particular opportunity being about as unconvincing as can be.

It also looks much like trying to cover up something else. Like when the Russians apparently had dirt on Hillary and yet the problem was spun into whether or not the Trump campaign should have been looking to receive it rather than on whether it should have existed in the first place.

As I said, Trump is no choirboy, but from where I'm sitting the Democrats have been crying wolf for so long it's hard to take them seriously. Maybe this time there really is a wolf, it's just hard to know whether there's a problem or if it's just another round of howling.

Now that one political party has actually attempted a coup d'état (or several of them), it changes everything...but people do not realize the consequences quite yet. If the Democrats succeed in any of their sordid plans--sidelining the Constitution, changing the election laws to insure a one-party government, packing the Supreme Court, and for sure if there is an impeachment, none of that will just be forgotten when the Democrats win back the presidency.

It happens in our political history every time that some previously unthinkable line is crossed by either party. That becomes something of a new norm. What's more, this all-too-human development of getting even, or whatever it should be called, is what has taken place in other countries. It is just that we previously were more stable than many of them. That is changing.

Sure. The Democrats in 2018 campaigned on the promise to impeach, and that was long before this Ukraine thing was known.

It's already interesting to see how the Democrat approach of "sanctuary cities" where the local powers refuse to cooperate with ICE and enforce federal immigration laws are potentially being flipped around to create "sanctuary counties" where the local powers refuse to cooperate with the state and enforce local regulations against firearm ownership. As you say, as soon as lines are crossed by one party that party loses any right to object if their opponents cross the same line to achieve a different goal.

It's like the notion of a president issuing an executive order and then complaining when their successor issues another executive order to revoke it. You don't get to rule by personal diktat and then complain when your successor dislikes your order and revokes it by personal diktat.

Sometimes I seriously wonder if those on the hard left are trying to trigger another civil war. It's just hard to see how you can win a civil war when the side you are fighting is the side with the guns.

Often overlooked is the companion question that is asked by the pollsters: Do you think the direction of the country is positive or negative? It has for some time under Trump been in the low 40s% positive whereas it was stuck at around 29% under Obama.

I really don't see anything that polls how the public feels about the Democrats in that poll, so not sure how your drawing that conclusion.

I didn't say anything about how they feel about the Democrats themselves. What I said was their manipulation is not appreciated because they're wasting tax dollars and time.
