Hey ms. Ruth. Don't know who else is still up but you seem as qualified as any.

I have a big problem with public displays. I have no technical church membership. I know my direction under God for the most part but still waver. My sins would most probably seem miniscule to others but feel damning to me. I am aware of them before I do them. I am aware of the detramental effects they have in me physically and can only assume the ramifications in spiritual terms. I have never been baptised. Like I said I never liked being the center of attention. Even more so that I know that works aren't to be for the sight of others. My question is; should I get baptised tomorrow? Could this possibly imbue the last bit of strength and Faith that I so desperately need? What if it doesn't? If I continue to sin afterward I will feel utterly defeated. What to do? Thanks.

Faith in selfless Unity for Good.

By all means get baptized, it is important for you and for every believer, as for sinning we all do daily which is why we are told to seek forgiveness daily. 1 John 1: 9-10 is a great verse ton this

God is the one at work in baptism, bringing you the blessings of the cross. Don't think that it's making a spectacle of yourself. And please don't think that baptism will stop you from sinning. We live in sinful bodies and will continue to sin until death or the Lord comes again. But, the joy is the knowledge that we are forgiven for those sins and we strive to live godly lives, not just for the love of God but for our neighbor.

If baptism took its meaning or its effect from "a testimony to our faith" then it would be indistinguishable from simply getting wet. But we are blessed by God in that baptism takes its meaning and its effect from Jesus Christ. Saint Paul explains it in Romans chapter six.
Romans 6:3-6 NJB (3) You cannot have forgotten that all of us, when we were baptised into Christ Jesus, were baptised into his death. (4) So by our baptism into his death we were buried with him, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father's glorious power, we too should begin living a new life. (5) If we have been joined to him by dying a death like his, so we shall be by a resurrection like his; (6) realising that our former self was crucified with him, so that the self which belonged to sin should be destroyed and we should be freed from the slavery of sin.

If baptism does not effect what saint Paul says that it does then one cannot help but wonder why he said it.
