Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
Paul was called or appointed by God to be the Apostle to the Gentiles and reveal the mystery of Christ (2 Timothy 1:11 Ephesians 3:4). The mystery was not made known before it was revealed to Paul (Romans 16:25). The mystery includes:
A The gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
B Blindness in part to Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles (Romans 11:25).
C Christ and the church (Ephesians 5:32).
D A new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17).
E Dead to the law (Romans 7:4).
F The Gentiles should be of the same body (Ephesians 3:6 Romans 12:5).
1:6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
Believers have been called or invited to be in Christ by believing the gospel, by trusting Christ for a completed salvation.
1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Saints are those who have believed the gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:10). Saints are made holy through faith and can be kingdom believers (Matthew 27:52) or grace believers (Ephesians 4:12). Kingdom believers are those who are in Christ by faith. The kingdom believers, Jew or Gentile, are promised the prophetic Davidic kingdom on earth (Daniel 7:18). Grace believers, Jew or Gentile, have believed the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and are members of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27) and are going to heaven (Ephesians 2:6).
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
We are called not by our works, but by his purpose.
8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
God has done everything for the called in salvation, we just believe.
9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Here Paul is speaking of Israel; how not all Israel is Israel, it is only the believing remnant that is the called. It is only the remnant that are children of the promise (Romans 9:8).
9:24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
Paul, in the above verse, is speaking of the believing remnant as can be seen in Romans 9:25 where Paul sites Hosea 2:23, which refers to the remnant (Romans 9:27 1 Peter 2:10). The believing remnant of Israel is not Jews only, but Gentiles also (Romans 9:30).
1 Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:
I understand that in the verse above, Christ is referred to as being, "both their's and our's", which alludes to the called saints as being both kingdom believers promised the kingdom on earth; and grace believers who believed Paul's gospel and are going to heaven. In 1 Corinthians 15:11 Paul says that they believed either by the twelve Apostles of Christ's earthly ministry, preaching the gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 24:14 Mark 16:15); or by him, preaching the gospel of Christ (Romans 15:19).
1 Corinthians 7:17 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
7:18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
7:20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
I understand that Paul, in the above verses, was referring to called Jew and Gentile believers. A kingdom Jewish saint was being told not to become uncircumcised by not keeping the commandments. A grace believing saint was not to become circumcised by keeping the law (1 Corinthians 7:19).
1 Corinthians 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
We are called by the preaching of Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 1:23).
Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Being called, we should live for Him.
