Just caught up on some Bible reading. I found a program that goes through the OT once and the NT twice within a year. It's a good kick to make sure everything is covered - in the past I read the entire thing cover-to-cover to make sure I didn't constantly avoid the more obscure sections of it, and figured it was time to do it again.

Next up is another session of final checks to make sure my wall is sound and then I can cut some more insulation panels. I still need to cut away some broken sections of concrete block from where the house was extended but want to get a couple of good nights sleep behind me before I work with an angle grinder on a ladder in a confined space. Having spend so much time indoors these last few days, what with working on the house and it being so cold, it's really messed up my sleeping patterns. I did some research into sleeping issues and I think the problem is a lack of daylight at the right times, leaving me tired in the evenings and then struggling to sleep through the night. Hopefully I can fix things armed with a little information.

Once I've got some insulation work done I can make some tweaks to my computer code. Last night I realized I'd made an oversight in my data model, so I need to figure how to fix that without running out of space. It's very strange shifting back and forth between having effectively unlimited memory and disk space to work with, and having less than 256 bytes to store data in a memory dongle. Still, it's good to keep the design nice and tight. I think it will all fit, just need to fix and test a few things.

The power went out at work and wasn't scheduled to come on until 245 pm so I left work and started heading towards a home visit with a family I see. I am at public library now waiting for my scheduled appointment time with them a little later today. The whole little town our office is in is without power

Got another load of bits done with my wall. It's frustrating to have got to the point where I really thought all the drafts were fixed, only for the temperature to go way below freezing and find there are still a few patches that need attention. And of course they are all in the most inaccessible areas of the room. I'm seriously thinking I might end up pushing insulation panels as far into the space as I can manage, taping the joints between the panels and the ceiling joists, and then filling the gap from above with spray foam. At least that way it will get right into the gaps behind the wall studs.

Now I'm having a coffee ready to take a shower and get on with some computer stuff.

10 dollars a month.. 9.99 actually, you get the first month free :)

I don't have the premium, but I've been having fun working on some playlists. Each has their own type of "mood", some are from some favorite bands, pretty cool :)

At Starbucks listening to loud talkers. But I guess it's part of the 'ambiance'. I really am disinterested in the phone call of the guy next to me, though. He really wants me to hear it. I wonder what he'd think of my music if I unplugged my head-phones. He'd be a little miffed, I think :D

I am listening to Living on A Prayer...which I am doing too! Having lots of upper back pain. Taking Gabapentin and icing it. Neither has lasting effects. Typing doesn't help so I'm going to stop now.

Smoked salmon for breakfast. My wife decided to get us a little treat. Then it's a question of whether to do battle with walls or code. I think I got most of the data structure I wanted in place and working, but there's a couple of extra checks I need to code to make sure everything is OK before actually running the software. I was concerned that my data structure change was going to break something but in the end I found a way to make it much easier. The problem is that I only have 240 bytes to work with so storing multiples of something isn't desirable. Thankfully I figured a way to keep everything very compact - it involves a small sacrifice but I can live with that.

One hour left at work. Gave out a bunch of Naloxone kits today. Unfortunately it's necessary

Hunkered down for the blizzard, followed by extreme cold temps.
Forecast for 8" of snow tonight and then low temps of -25F with highs around -10F. Governor may call off school for public schools on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Praying that the electricity stays on and the gas furnace keeps working.

Finally figured out where a cold issue is coming from.

This one has been bugging me for ages. I've stuffed foam and sealant into every nook and cranny I can find but still my hands get very cold when working in one particular corner. The inner face of the brickwork shows normal sorts of temperatures until you get to the very bottom of the wall where everything turns dark blue for no apparent reason.

So, running out of possibilities, I decided to get into the space in the basement under the area in question. It's really tight in there, lots of spider webs, radiator pipes, and squeezing past the oil tanks is interesting at best. But I found what I was looking for. As I scanned the area with the thermal camera I spotted a patch of dark blue. I took a closer look and saw daylight. So while I was hunting a draft by fixing ever-smaller cracks in the brickwork in the main room it looks like the primary issue I was having was with a dodgy section of wall in the basement. And of course if the cold air can get into the brickwork from beneath and blow side-to-side across everything, it will make the very bottoms of the walls much colder than the sections above.

Now I just need to figure a way to seal it all up. The outside brickwork will have to wait until I can get at it, which means waiting until a pile of snow has melted. Getting at the inside is tricky because it's such an awkward area to access, and my usual cans of building foam don't have a long enough reach to spray into the space. I can see a trip to the hardware store is in my future.
