When my children were younger we built snow forts, dug tunnels in the drifts, went skating, sledding and cross country skiing as well as snow mobiling. We often skied 10-20 kilometers during a day. If we had extra money we would go downhill skiing. There is so many things one can do when it's below freezing.
Now...there is a point where it's too cold. I used to deliver news papers as a kid and I remember two or three times when I walked the route in -50F temperatures. I had no exposed skin. I wore a fleece lined "Jason" mask and I had an ice beard by the time I got done. A little fact: Snow, at -50F, is really loud and crunchy when you walk on it.

A friend of mine admitted that he HATES skiing - especially because of the cold.

BUT the only good part (and it IS a good part) is afterward, when you LEAVE all that horror behind and go into the warm lodge... snuggling up with your beloved, by the fire, with a hot chocolate. THAT I could get into. I'll just skip the COLD and snow.

I do all I can to avoid the cold and especially snow.

If God had intended people to live in the cold, He would have covered us with thick fir. God intends us to live in places that are perpetual spring and summer.

I look at all those wintery Christmas cards and THANK GOD in heaven above that I'm not there.

...just another example of you denying the Sovereign will of God...

Preach, Brother!

I'm amazed that you could walk on it. I left Michigan partly because of that fact. With age came ineptness when walking on frozen snow. Thought I was safer in the Pacific Northwest, however we were dumped on Midwest-style the last two seasons. Not this year (so far :scared:)

I like shoveling snow. It's great exercise. Except now we have a really long driveway so it's not as much fun anymore.

I hate shoveling snow. I particularly hate the sense of constantly trying to push it somewhere else, especially when you run out of somewhere elses to push it.

I have a friend who lives in Minnesota just for all the fun winter activities he can do! Cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and I think he enjoys going to the outdoor saunas and then running out into the snow to cool down LOL

I'm hoping to invest in a camera package soon and take some beginner courses. I've no experience, but the mountains and valley scenery is just too much to ignore. I may not be able to invest until about March, but the interior of BC as well as some of the higher mountain passes should still have snow and I can practice getting some shots

Snow is very photogenic but it can be tricky to get good pictures of it. You'll want to understand how to manually adjust the exposure in your camera, because if you're using automatic exposure the camera will try to make everything a midtone gray. For most scenes that works but if there's a lot of white in it you end up with a picture that's too dark.

We get really bad temperature inversions in our valley during the winter. But if you drive up to the ski resorts the sky is blue and its actually warmer up there than in the valley.

There seems to be an obvious opportunity for us to help each other here. Lammchen likes shoveling snow, I hate it and Psalms hates it.

Are those things any good? I'm looking for something that will take most of the grunt work out of shoveling but a full-on gas powered snow blower isn't appropriate for the space (shared driveway with windows facing it on both sides). At first I was quite intrigued by electric snow throwers that could deal with up to 6-8 inches and throw it far enough I could clear the driveway going side-to-side but without worrying about breaking windows, but all the electric ones seem to have recurring themes in the negative reviews that they overheat, catch fire, or just give up the ghost within a depressingly short time. If something is going to cost a couple of hundred and only last a season I might as well just pay next door's kids to do it for me.

Edit: I'm about 6'4 and would prefer not to be walking up and down bent over like Quasimodo, so things with long handles are helpful. I've been considering trying to rig something together to use the collection of Dewalt batteries I've accumulated. If I can figure out where to source a suitable motor and how to protect it from getting wet I might end up doing something like that.

Not sure about their quality. it appeared they'd be good for minor jobs. I'm the in the same boat as you being 6'4 and not fond of back pain from jobs where i'm bending a lot. Vacuuming is always fun. With the snow blower in the pic I figured Lamm would enjoy the work involved :)

Fair enough. Maybe it's time to see how much work it would take to build some kind of spiral blade from treated wood, and what it would cost to buy a motor strong enough to spin it fast enough.

My winter fun is trying not to slip on the ice and that can appear like either an art form, sport, or lunacy to someone watching.

We finally got some real snow yesterday. Suzy likes running in it but her paws freeze up. Then I unfreeze them. Suzy is a snow lover. I don't mind walking in a little of it but not when it's knee high. There's about 4 inches on the ground now.
