Right now I'm just chilling on the couch with Peanut.
My heart is full!

She seems to be feeling better. She doesn't like taking her pain meds but she takes the other ones fine. I still think she has feeling in her feet which I check all the time just to be sure.

Do you hide her pills in food or treats? My dog hated taking pills. I had to throw it down her throat and then hold her mouth shut and stroke her neck to get her to swallow. I felt awful having to do that to her.

We hide it in bread with peanut butter.

Curious day today.

Started out with a session of breaking walls. Looking for ever-smaller drafts is desperately tedious but rewarding when they are found and blocked. Today I smoothed off some prominent sections of mortar chiselled out a couple of patches I thought were OK but turned out to have slight drafts blowing through, cut some more insulation panels to size, and slathered sealant over what felt like just about everything in the room. Now I'm ready to cut more panels and fit them.

Then I caught up on a little admin, raised an invoice to cover my work to date for the client for the software I've been writing.

Finally was the fun part. Our Bible study group had our Christmas dinner this evening, and a good time was had by all.

Getting ready to work on my daughter's infinity scarf for one of her last few gifts that I have to make. I want to do mittens too but I don't think I have time. Plus my hands are in so much pain from all the stitching this past month.

Spent most of this afternoon getting some code written, then this evening was our Sunday school group's Christmas party. Four hours of mayhem - we had something like 13 adults and at least as many children. Normally I don't care for noisy children but when the noise they are making are sounds of them having a whole lot of fun it's nice to hear.

Me too.... I was in bed early last night and disturbed early this morning. I couldn't get back to sleep properly for an hour or more, but then slept in. This morning I want to work on some of the code ideas that ran through my head while I was trying to get back to sleep.

Contemplating moving the heck away from where I'm living - far away - where no-one knows me or has any inkling of the person I used to be. Lots of jobs I can interview for where I can just not be a problem for certain people. :/
*end rant

Lazy morning this morning. I was up until 2am this morning getting my wife's laptop sorted out. Ordinarily I might have left it until this morning but given I was changing her antivirus/internet security product I wanted to be able to run the first full virus scan while I slept because that's the sort of thing that takes a while. On my laptop it took something like 11 hours. On hers (she has far less stuff on her laptop) it still took four hours. By the time I woke up the virus scan was finished and the laptop had shut itself down. So then I started it up and kicked off the "optimize" process that cleared out a whole bunch of junk.

The "optimize" process made a huge difference on my laptop. It had previously been running more and more slowly, taking longer to resume from hibernation, to the point I'd been alternating between thinking about replacing it and feeling annoyed that a laptop that's still much more powerful than most of the mainstream laptops on the market should be having any troubles at all. Since I changed antivirus software it seems much better already. The optimization process cleared up something like 6GB of redundant files I hadn't clocked as redundant myself, which itself made quite a difference. And where my old virus scanner would tell me helpful things like "Quick scan 1% complete, estimated time remaining 3 days", the new one does it all within half an hour or so - it offers a quick-scan option that only looks at new or changed files, so once it has scanned things like my source code repository once it can tell very little of it has changed and only scan the files I have updated. It also throws a lot fewer false positives - it got really tedious trying to endlessly tell my old virus checker that a particular application was safe. I knew it was safe because I wrote it myself, but every single time I recompiled it the virus checker threw it up as a suspected infection.

This afternoon I'm going to spend a little more time fiddling with my code, and then this evening we're headed out to see the new year in with a couple of friends from church. We're going to theirs because they have small children who need to go to bed before midnight.

Once January is with us I get to resume breaking my house. I've got a few pieces of work I want to get done, now my laptop is out of my study and I can make more dust if I need to.

I found why my code didn't work as expected. Stupid mistake on my part. I'd managed to get two variables switched around, which meant whatever my code could read whatever it wrote and it made sense but nothing else could read it. At least it was an easy fix....

Realizing just how you-know-what I am on taxes and deductions from my paycheck. Over $1,200 this period taken out! And the good news? Canadian Pension deductions are going up in 2019... yay
