My plumbing hit another problem. I'm not sure whether I just need another wrench but may end up asking my heating guy to help me out. I need to get the radiators off so I can see to the walls behind them so I'd rather pay someone, much as it pains me to do it, and get on with the wall. I don't want to have the radiators still disconnected when it starts to get cold again.

On a more positive note my brackets for the air conditioners fit more or less perfectly and now I've got air conditioning back on in the bedroom and the study. Which is always nice. My wife is happy that we don't have to sleep in the warm any more.

Perfect timing to get the air conditioner back in!!

I would not want to live without my air conditioner and it is a luxury I will pay extra for no matter how much in debt I become. Hehe

I just wish they were made to a standard that doesn't leave them looking like they were assembled by an ape. When they come with instructions that ramble on endlessly about how important it is to get an airtight fit, and they are made to such a shoddy standard that an airtight fit isn't humanly possible to create, I wonder why they bother. Of course when the fit isn't airtight you get bugs coming through the gaps, you get hot air coming through the gaps, and the unit works harder and wears out faster. Which of course means you need to buy another one sooner. Because, you know, they care about their customers.

I know a guy who has something similar. He really likes it. I don't know what it would cost to put something like that in my house. I think the head units run to $2000 or so and quite aside from not being sure I could actually find somewhere to put them, I'd probably find I needed 8-10 of them. I'm thinking I might get rid of the cast iron radiators and put ducting in, so I can use a heat pump to deliver hot and cold air, but from all accounts water-based radiators are a very effective and efficient mode of heat. Maybe I'll keep the radiators for heat and put something in for cooling, if I can get it without selling parts of myself for scientific research.

Since i now have my sleep apnea under control I started going to the gym again. I ran three miles yesterday and also did three miles today.

I applied for some part time work on Friday and am waiting to hear from this this coming week.

Thinking about what I need to make picture frames. I need to be able to put edging on wood to replace some of the trim in my house so bought a router in a tool sale. Since I've got the router I figured I can probably make picture frames for a couple of pictures I have, which will be hugely cheaper than paying someone else to make me a picture frame.

Just mulling over picture frames and I thought I'd cut up a piece of scrap wood to see what happened. I thought my router bit was too small but having cut a 5/8" board to size and put an edge on it I think I've actually got just what I needed. Normally I'd use 3/4" or maybe 13/16", which will mean I've got enough to take about 1/4" off the bottom and put in a sheet of acrylic, a picture, and a piece of backing card before putting artist's tape across the back to hold it all in place. I'm thinking I might be able to put it all into 1/8" depending on just what I end up using.

Not only did the edge look rather nice for a first cut but also my miter saw appears to be cutting very good 45 degree miters. It's just a little hairy trying to figure out how to hold a short workpiece with the saw at an aggressive angle, given I want to cut the workpiece while ideally leaving my hands still joined on to my wrists. I may yet end up making a sled for my table saw so I can slide things back and forth more easily, keeping fingers and thumbs well clear of the blade.

I guess now it's time to find a rabbeting but to cut the bottoms out of the frames and some shellac to make it all look pretty, and place an order for some acrylic sheeting. I've got a 13/16" red oak board in the basement I can use so I'm thinking my very first frame isn't going to be very far in the future. I already know what I'm going to put in it. I've got a picture that I've had in a cardboard sleeve for over a decade now. I've got another picture I bought my wife a few years ago that we've never found a frame for, and another print I bought from a local artist a couple of weeks ago.

You're right! Frames are so expensive. If you don't feel like making your own you can go to rummage sales and buy their bad artwork just for the frames at a decent price!

Abortion and lunch...quite the combo??? eek

Ah, well, I can multi- think. I'm not contemplating the process of abortion whilst I'm reading about a very bad decision ( in my American opinion) made by some of the citizens of another country in the name of civil rights. Actually, now that you've brought that up, I'm not quite so hungry..

I find it's quite hard to get decent frames in the sizes I want, especially if I want a few that match. Hence the idea to just make them myself.

Okay, now that I've eaten lunch, had my nap and just finished dinner, I can continue to contemplate those heroes who lost their lives for the sake of my country's freedom.

My body's beginning its nightly shut- down, so I suppose I'll write in my daily journal, read a couple of chapters of John Ferling's Apostles of Revolution and then say Martin Luther's Evening Prayer, read today's portion of Portals of Prayer, read the 3rd Week Monday Evening prayer from the Lutheran Book of Prayers and then burrow under the covers and go on to sleep. Good night, you lot. :)

I haven't seen a Portals of Prayer book in a few years. My previous church always had them laid out on a shelf for the congregation.

Lazy start to the morning. Then I need to go and get a couple of tools (I need a second pipe wrench and another router bit) and then meeting a friend for lunch. Once I've got the router bit I may try making a complete frame just to see how it works out.
