How does one conflate lack of belief with knowing unbelief?

They are very different.

One who hasn't heard to the point of believing is not damned to eternal destruction, but is wieghed against their words and actions in this life; as all are. Self proclaimed Christian's will be weighed more strictly than those who have never claimed such a state or closeness to GOD.

The only verse that I know of that speaks to this is the one that states about fewer spripes as opposed to many, not sure where that is at but I am sure you scholars will know it.

Why? Because his wife or family were Roman catholic and he chose to appease them. I know many people who do things out of family pressure and not out of personal faith.
Second, I am not presuming. I am stating that it is deceptive to tell the child that God thought his dad was good and therefore the child's dad will be in heaven. The Pope doesn't know that. Secondly, the Bible doesn't back up the Pope at all.
What does scripture tell us about God and his means of reconciliation?

God will still judge non Christians according to their works, a non believer that continued in good works is not out to save themselves but yet God will still judge them. Do you believe just because someone says they are Christian they go to heaven automatically? God searches the hearts of men, just saying God is in control of being judge, no one has the right to judge for him. The Pope believes he is the voice of God, many popes before have stated this position, so if you ask a Pope a question you will get an answer. That kid was comforted, and I am happy for him.

I would be honest and walk them through the Bible to show them what God says. At that point the issue of the dad's fate is a moot point. The issue of the child's reconciliation with God is of importance.
We agree that the man's fate is in God's hand. But the question of this thread is whether the Pope's answer is biblically true.

A commonly misused passage in Romans to teach salvation by works despite the fact that the rest of Romans refutes salvation by works.
God will certainly judge all of us by our works. It is our works that condemn all of us.
It is God's grace that delivers us from our sure condemnation. It is NOT our imaginary good works that save us from our condemnation.

Read all of Romans 2 and then keep on going. Romans 2 leads the reader away from the law and onward toward grace. The entire letter is a wonderful treatise about grace being greater than the law.
Romans 2:1-29
[1]You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.
[2]And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things.
[3]Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things?
[4]Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Humans are by nature in rebellion to God. You might make an argument that some are in greater anguish than other who are condemned by sin, but there is no argument made that unreconciled humans are spared from the judgment of hell.
I have already said that all our works are judged by God, both unreconciled and reconciled. Both will be condemned based upon their works, apart from Christ.
Those whom God chooses to reconcile and justify will be granted pardon entirely by God's grace and by no other means.

I have already said that all our works are judged by God, both unreconciled and reconciled. Both will be condemned based upon their works, apart from Christ.

Thats like saying that if a man found a wallet full of money with no ID that he would be rightly judged as a knowing theif.

That you don't know of any scripture that expounds on the fact that we are judged according to what we do know and the actions in relation to that is odd to me.

I'm not going to entertain your antics. You know the scripture as well if not better than me; but you like to pretend those who know the Lord yet continue in their own greedy desires are somehow safe from judgement and that those who are in genuine ignorance are those who are knowing unbelievers.

Such is too backwards to even entertain for me.

If I thought for a moment that you actually where ignorant of the scripture then I would post some; as it stands you are guilty of willful ignorance as far as these poor eyes can see.
