Got some more electrical work done. I finally replaced a hideous botch job that whoever wired the place did that involved an ugly cabling job that started as three cores, then shifted to four, then to six, and then to knob-and-tube for part of it. Now the knob-and-tube is gone, and the hideous botch is replaced by two pieces of nice new cable. A third piece needs to get run in there, but that can wait. The old cable is cut off and marked with green tape so I know it's dead - having traced it I know for sure where all the ends are, and nothing is connected at either end.

It's not a hugely pretty job at the far end of the new cable but it works for now, and much of the rest of it will be replaced before too long.

I decided to turn the white basmati rice I was going to throw away into a wine.

Went through the same process I did with the corn after milling using direct enzymes (isolated alpha amylase) doing a 3 step mash. However, since I did have some partially modified barley (partially malted green malt) I threw that in at the appropriate temperature after gelatinization of the rice and cool down. The overall result was a pretty sweet wort. I'm not sure all the starch was broken down but a fair amount of it was. Now I'm waiting for it to cool enough to pitch some yeast and transfer to an appropriate container.

Hunting a hammer.

It sounds odd but I really have no idea what happened to it. I've turned the house upside down looking and it seems to have vanished. Of course it's not helped by the fact that normally when I finish a job I put my tools away but the last job of any size finished when I gashed myself and went to the ER to be put back together again, so everything kind of stayed where it last happened to be. Strangely even that hasn't helped me find my hammer. At this rate I'm going to have to go buy another one.

Perusing some posts. I finally found a suite to rent here in town and will be moving December 1st (YAY!). Decent sized 1-bedroom, above ground, yard and patio access. Big relief. My current landlord wants to hold back $100 (arbitrarily) because I didn't give 30-days notice, but we're not under the residential tenancy laws, and there's noting written in my lease about notice. It's a month-to-month. So I'm going to fight him on that.

Now I'm going to catch up on some episodes of Hell's Kitchen :)

I just started on a new book.. " Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates" by Brian Kilmeade. I'm on page 300 of the new Martin Luther book and is it absorbing reading!

Earlier today, I took a beautifully scenic ride up Skyline Drive and was able to see a good part of the Shenandoah Valley. It was a clear day with a cool wind blowing.

My living room and bedroom views are across a valley. At the bottom of the valley is a little river.

Enjoying having the heat back on. I had an electrician in all day replacing two elderly breaker panels with a single nice shiny new one. Of course it meant I had no power for several hours, which meant I had no heat for several hours. Now I have heat and light, and all is well in the world.

And, for good measure, I found my hammer. It was right in plain sight, yet I'd walked past it no less than half a dozen times while actively looking for it, and my wife also walked past it multiple times while looking for it. But I didn't have to buy another one, so I am happy.

I finished reading Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates and now I'm trying to finish my new Martin Luther book. Josiah, as promised, I'll write up a review as soon as I'm done.

Spent this morning looking into the character of Simon Magus in the early extra-biblical church literature.
