So this isn't meant as a post to replace advise from a doctor. I just notice that people clearly don't understand the difference between type one and type two diabetes.
With type one diabetes it means that the body is producing very little if any insulin on its own. When a person is newly diagnosed it is possible it may be producing a little, but not enough. Most people find out they have this when they are have symptoms and find out in the hospital. For a person with type 1 the only way they get insulin is through a shot or the pump. Oral medications don't help someone with type one.
Type two diabetes means your insulin is not being absorbed well or as effective as it once was. For this type person oral medications, diet and exercise can often be the only thing they need. But, since diabetes is progressive it means over time it gets harder to control and manage and you may have to go on insulin.
There are a lot of people talking online about how you can be cured of diabetes due to diet or exercise. That is not true at all. These are usually people who are eating little to no carbs. They are managing their diabetes through diet. It didn't go away, it is being managed which is different.
Now, doctor use the term pre diabetes. This is fairly new for them to be using this term. It's kinda like saying your pre pregnant. The truth is that you either have it or you don't.
I admittedly am bias since I have struggled with type 2 for the last 16 years and have a son with type 1 diabetes the last 12 years. So, we deal with this everyday. Here are some symptoms of diabetes if you wonder if you have it

The test that gives you a 3 month average of your blood sugars is called the A1C. If you think you have it ask for this test to be done. You can also get a home test at the pharmacy
