Halloween is getting closer! I can't wait to see the neighbors come to the house!

Got your kindling, rope, and matches ready?

Ever had the great idea for a thread and forget to write it down, then end up forgetting what it was about? Asking for a friend. :p

Sometimes I read stuff on websites by so called "health experts" and it gets me so angry.

A recent read article on Zinc touts it's importance in a number of different areas, including sense of smell and sexual function in men. These things are true.

Then it listed sources, the first of which are meats, dairy, whole grains, eggs fish, followed by nuts, legumes, seeds. With a caveat. Always with the same one, too. That being "the human body doesn't absorb this mineral along with others as well from these latter foods as opposed to animal sources".

That is a lie - it is a half truth. I have found, since going vegan, my sense of smell has SKYROCKETED. However, when I tried to do this before, that was not the case, in fact I think I actually got Zinc deficient with all the beer I was drinking. One thing I was NOT doing at that time, was soaking and sprouting my seeds, legumes, nuts. Am doing this now though.

I haven't stopped drinking beer, but boy, on the nights I do drink it I can smell it in my urine the next morning. This phenomenon is NEW to me. When I was meat eating for zinc (and protein) after drinking beer, the next morning I never smelled anything - now the smell is super strong!

I eat meat and I have a strong sense of smell even with a stuffed up nose. I can smell the pine trees when no one else in my family can when we drive into the park.

My sense of smell isn't just improved going vegan, it's improved with how I treat nuts/beans/seeds/grains before I consume them. I did try veganism before(some years ago) for a short time and found I was quickly getting zinc deficient (one of the things that happened and scared me was that one morning after drinking a lot of beer the previous night I found I was still drunk, couldn't urinate and wasn't detoxing. I had been relying on grains (commercial bread, pasta etc) and pumpkin seeds(raw, no soaking or sprouting) for zinc. Soaking and sprouting has made a lot of difference.

You will get zinc from meat, that is true. That is one reason I continued to consume it for a long time - the experience I described above scared me. However, my sense of smell is far and beyond anything I remember for a very long long time. I didn't gain a sense of smell, it just improved 300%. What's significant is that I know that alcohol depletes zinc - and when I was meat eating for this mineral I couldn't smell the beer in my urine in the morning - now the smell is very strong.

Simply stated, this proves (to me) that my zinc intake (and bodily uptake) eating meat is not anywhere near as efficient as compared to that which I get when I depend on zinc rich grains that have been brought through the soaking and sprouting process.

As for being able to smell things well (as good or better) with a stuffed up nose, sorry sis, my own experience says different, and I suspect, the majority of people reading that statement, lol.

You can believe what you want but even with a stuffed up nose I can smell things better than some members of my family.

I don't doubt it. Do they eat the same diet and have stuffed up noses and allergies as well?

1 is a vegetarian and I'm the only one with the big allergies so they breathe better than I do. I can just smell things better. My nose isn't always stuffed, btw.

How long has it been since you stopped smoking?

The time I stopped (tobacco) consumption is somewhere on this board. I have been substituting tea (usually black tea) as a smoke ever since (and still use it to this day), which if memory serves is also on this board. My sense of smell improved within about 5 days of completely eliminating meat and dairy and eggs from my diet AND soaking and/or sprouting the majority of the seed type foods I consume (seeds, legumes, grains, nuts etc).

A benefit of smoking cessation is increased sense of taste and smell.

Checked posts. This post is dated 4-10-2017 and when I posted it it was 8 days without tobacco/nicotine. So the 2nd of April 2017. I have been smoking tea in some form ever since. I have had 1 cigarrette in that time from a neighbor that I hardly smoked, and no nicotine/tobacco at all otherwise.

Post when I noticed increase in sense of smell within 5 days since going completely vegan (using soaked/sprouted seed type products for zinc and other minerals). Dated the 7th of last month.

First time this has happened and I was a bit surprised.

One of the spring onions that I have growing in a bottle with just a little water and potato starch and sitting in a window has gone to flower. I'm not sure if a bee has to pollinate it or I can do it myself (although I've heard of the latter) but if the latter then I'll get seed from it.
