What is the OLDEST someone can be to go around on Halloween and beg for candy?

A recent survey in the USA concluded at 44% say "NEVER" You can NEVER be too old to do this.

A majority okayed this through college aged persons.....

WHAT ABOUT YOU? When do YOU think someone is too old to do this in the neighborhood? When do YOU think we become the ones who hand it out in stead of beg for it? At what age does all this "fun" go to parties among peers in stead of door-to-door? When you open the door, at what age do you think, "this person is too old for this?"

MY opinion.....

6th grade... about 12. I MIGHT be okay with middle schoolers but not high schoolers. I think this is a pre-teen, childhood thing - for kids.

And I find it ABSURD for those over 18. Come on, you can buy your own candy (and parents RAID their kits catche and take all the good things anyway). Sure, all this dress up stuff and things can be loads of fun, but go to a Halloween Party among your peers for that!

MY feeling....

Fifteen. That's stretching it a bit, but the kids around 12-14--but not older--who do so seem good natured and are just having fun living out a last hurrah of childhood, I have observed.

Yeah grad school age is the max IMO. About eleven or twelvish. But I don't make a big deal about when older kids come knocking. As long as they're wearing some kind of a costume.

Oh, grade school. :)

At first, I thought that grad students as trick or treaters was pushing the limits a bit much.

Once a person is around 14 or so they are too old for that.

I say 95 because at 95 your electric buggy is too big to fit on a small path and it can't climb stairs and it's bad manners to run over the little kids in your rush to get the "candy" ...

I'd agree that when you're clearly old enough to be buying your own candy you're too old to be going door to door begging for candy from strangers. Obvious exceptions for parents who are only there to supervise their children going door to door rather than collecting it themselves.

See, I always know we’re getting close to Halloween because the goblins start making my vowels disappear :faint:

I change my mind....

13 and under, 85 and over (if in a nursing home).

But not 14-84.

Folks in a nursing home probably can't get their own candy and the fuddy-duddy running the "home" probably doesn't give them any.

I don't mind handing out candy to high schoolers. They look out for the little ones out on the streets!

I don't know the history of Halloween but the modern version of it has to have been dreamed up by large corporations wishing to sell absolute garbage products for children (and adults) to get sick on.

Dressing up/parties/community gatherings - cool.

Feeling pressured into buying garbage for children and handing your money over to a corporation to make the garbage for you because you're not imaginative enough yourself to do it - Not so cool.

I really hope this practice never catches on here.

I think about 4 out of the 32 kids last night were teenagers. One was walking with his 8 siblings and the others were in a group with some younger kids. Everyone was very polite.
