My pastor this last Sunday asked us what we were willing to give up for revival. I have been thinking about it for several days and decided i am giving up soda. i drink a lot of it. I think it would be fair to say if you have Diet Pepsi stock you should sell now because I drink a lot of it. Do you give up things for revival or certain seasons of the year like Lent? I am writing this publicly to say that I am going to need to be held accountable to this. i tried this before and it lasted two days.

For revival?
You have to give up your life for that. That guy in Wales prayed 23 hours a day or so?
Ehm... well I started praying again instead of internetting and if I do that for an hour I feel absolutely fabulous. You gotta start somewhere. Lord have mercy.
I remember the time that I didn't mind kick the tv out and pray instead. Long time ago.

Yes all revivals have their roots in dedicated people that pray unceasingly for long periods of time, in some cases over years

That's one of my concerns is that I don't think most people want revival enough to give up what they should and really pray with some intensity.

Yes, it takes a dedicated group of people willing to do so and even when revival hits it takes a lot of people committed to mentoring and discipling new converts and people to help those dealing with rededication

This is new to me the giving up of something for revival because isn't revival God working in communities through his word to show men the Savior so they may believe and we make disciples by baptizing and teaching? I gotta ask how my giving up something is involved in that plan?

That's pretty much what I was thinking also. I get that praying with intensity relates to revival, but not giving up something in Lenten fashion.

It's giving something up with the idea that you are using that time that you would use for what your giving up on prayer. there is biblical evidence that people did this such as fasting. People fasted and gave up food for periods of time to focus more on prayer.
Also, for me, I feel like caffeine was becoming an addiction for me. I have been without it now for 4.5 days and I have cravings for it and also headaches since I stopped drinking it. But, I don't think it is God's will for anything to have that kind of control over me, so it has got to go.

Yes, that reply helped clarify things. It probably was the comparison to the Lenten practice that caused some of the confusion, since giving up soda in favor of some other beverage (the example you used) would not translate into much time saved for praying, although it would represent self-denial in the spirit of Lent.

All it takes is one person getting healed or deliveresd and you will not have to worry about people or money, if it is true revival and of God then everything wioll be taken care of

Yes but it's for now, to even be able to start revival meetings. In Holland most don't care if a pastor can eat or pay rent. There are almost no good churches compared to America, yeah a few big ones, but most pastors have a full time job and don't have much energy left to preach, so there are no good Bible studies or counselling or anything. It's like with the Levites. Noone paid, so they stopped working in the temple and went back to their own jobs. No tithes, no food in the house. And we have a really small church. I got into debt to help my ex pay rent and food. I didn't want to help him anymore, cause I get into trouble. So today I said: Lord please put it on someone else's heart to give a good offering. He needs 50 euro to buy food. He had nothing. Got 13 from the rest, so I gave it. I'll borrow some more. Reinhard Bonnke's prayer team prayed for him that we get revival and he can get an income. I don't get it. We had rich ppl in church who saw him go on my bike to the food bank and they just don't care and buy a new kitchen for themselves.
