Why won't they sit next to me??????

We have meetings twice a monthy at work and I hate going to these for one reason...the guys won't sit next to me. We primarily have men in the office and it seems they'll sit anywhere else but next to me until they absolutely have to at the last minute when all the other seats are filled. I do not stink! Even the guys I talk to don't choose to sit next to me. Sometimes the girls will and I appreciate that. I feel like that wimpy kid who gets chosen last on the team.

So why won't they sit next to me unless it's the last open seats?

Well I can't really answer this question because I don't really know about your job etc. It can be because you stink but I doubt that. Maybe it is because of something you did or said.

I know that a girl at my work is spreading the word that I told her I hated her, which I didn't, I don't think I ever gave her a reason to hate me.

From what I understand, many men are intimidated by overzealous HR dept. policies that exist in some office environments regarding sexual harassment. Clearly such harassment is wrong, but some companies take it too far and as a result some men feel like they would rather avoid any and all situations where they could be called out.

I don't even think that most of them know who I am and when they hear my last name, even though it's common, they don't realize I'm married to my husband! Kinda funny. We're really very opposite so they don't expect us to be a couple.

Another reason might be because you ARE a woman. And in this "claim sexual harassment at a drop of a hat" era, there might be a level of self-preservation. Or a number of similar reasons.

Whatever it is, I wouldn't take it personally.

Knowing you personally YOU could NEVER offend anyone... my thought it that a guy just wants to not be noticed.. like they want to stick in a group.. and if ONE starts to sit next to you then the other men will follow ...its just the thought of getting the first one to sit next to you.. let me ask you this in reverse.. IF you walked in the room would you in turn sit next to a man or would you prefer to sit or stand by the women..

Men are differnt then women.. lets face it.. their personality is different.. their ways of doing things are different .. yeah I know the old saying.. 'of course they are different' but you know what I am trying to say..

It depended on who the guy was and who the girl was. If I knew the guy and not the girl, I'd sit next to him. If I knew the girl and that guy, I'd choose the girl. If I knew the girl and not the guy I'd sit next to her
