I've never looked it up. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me much where my 4 times great grandfather lived or what he did. JUST ME.
I know that my mother comes out of Danish and Norwegian roots - as far back as she knew (and we're only taking a couple of generations), that's the heritage. She knows things back to when ancestors left "the old country.' My Dad is more complex.... his mother's side is solidly German (they even both could speak German fluently) and probably south or west Germany because they were solidly Catholic. But my paternal grandfather had some English in him - and he thought some Scot and Irish, but also German. Like many Americans, he had mixed ancestory. Both sides came fairly recently to this country, and I know nothing of the ancestors who lived all their lives in Europe. Just that there's good reason for the blonde hair and blue eyes, LOL.
