Why did Trump use a bail bondsman and not his own cash to post bail?

I don't know his reasoning, but it helps out the small business guy :) Once the case is adjudicated, the bail bondsman gets his money back plus a fee which could be anywhere from 10-20%.

The Democrats only have 80 or 90 charges filed against him at present. In order to cover the whole of the campaign period leading up to election day, there's consideration being given to filing any number of additional ones in different states as well as challenges to him even being allowed to appear on the ballot (that's how it's done in Iran when elections are held). So, for him to use a bail bondsman under those circumstances is probably the most convenient route to take.
