And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
-Matthew 21:13
Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
-Mark 11:17
saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
-Luke 19:46
Why is Jesus accusing them of being thieves? The money changers were just doing their legitimate banking practices where they loan out money and charge interest. Nothing wrong with that. Granted, they shouldn’t have been doing it in the temple area, but still, it’s a perfectly legitimate business.
Why did he call them thieves?
