We pray for and forgive our enemies. We encourage selflessness and love and discourage hate and sin. We refrain from profanity and refuse to participate in drunkenness and we don't resort to violence or threats to resolve issues.
Undoubtedly we are the most mocked and hated peoples on this planet.
This age of social media has turned my friends into barbarians for once we had closeness and understanding in person but behind the screen they rip up and slander my beliefs.
Facebook memes I see from my friends are a constant attack on Christianity.
If I post scripture they laugh, they tell me to just get drunk, get laid get real etc.
I dont respond because I know that they just dont get it, but are we just ugly to them?
They want rachel but not leah, they see us as ugly and make fun of us and hide their faces from us.
Hollywood even goes out of its way to try to destroy us, atheist are glorified and Christians are suggested to be the problem of the world.
All I know is that I can find no greater love than from my God and therefore I would rather stand with him and be judged by the world than to stand with the world and be judged by God. Amen

Read John 15:19-21 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, A slave is not greater than his master, "If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you, If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me."

The fact that they are persecuting you is proof that you are not of this world. You cannot have friendship with the world and friendship with God at the same time. They love the darkness and as children of light we bring notice to the fact that they are living in darkness.

Most often, Christians are hated (if they are) because they come across as self-righteous. Unfortunately, those who are not that way are still stigmatized because of the behavior of those who are. Its common for people to generalize when they're making their criticisms.

John 16:33New International Version (NIV)

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

If a person only knows darkness, they will get mad at the person who describes the beauty revealed by the light. They will think you are foolish. The only way that a person can see the light is for God to open their eyes.
In the meantime, we can pray for the peace of the city we live in.

Or even their own self righteousness.
In this era everyone must be right, they agree with that among themselves for sake of "facts" against us "make believers"
This world will believe anything as long as its not in the bible.
The ego of man is mans worst enemy, Jesus left no shred of historic evidence for a purpose, man wants to worship man but its so hard for them to put their worship unto God. They absolutely love their ego and all their worldly knowledge, but they will never know the truth as we do. I pray for so many of these souls to be saved, but by one neighbor at a time I will keep.

I just wanted to add that 1 Corinthians 1:18 says "For the world of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to use who are being saved it is the power of God."

I had suitemates when I was in college who came over to my dorm room one night and asked me what I believe. After I explained to them my faith one of the guys after that started calling me 'Mr.Funde" because he said I was a fundamentalist. I like to think they asked me though because they noticed I was different. Too often though believe are not just different but legalistic and rude and judgmental like a Pharisee. I think we have to be careful about not falling into legalism. Jesus drew sinners to him because of his love for them

I have found it to be fairly common to denigrate Christians as a whole where their comments are only applicable to specific Christian sects or individuals. That behavior wouldn't be tolerated be it referring to any other group. On rare occasions I've pointed that out as bigoted behavior and challenge them to replace the term Christian with any other group and see how those comments are tolerated.

Christians are not especially hated in 2017. Maybe they will be some time in the future but not now.

USA Christians can be very strange. I remember seeing a youtube video clip of a lady ranting about "the dark side" - it was an outtake from a program about swapping families or something. She seemed to be completely insane, but it is likely she was instructed to play it up for the cameras. Somebody like her would be a good reason to dislike that kind of Christianity - matter of fact I disliked it a whole lot.

I think the issue is really a perception issue. Many people have poor experiences with churches or churchgoers and associate that sort of judgementalism with all Christians. But as we know there are many different types of Christian and some are more Christlike than others.

The truth is hatred is not universal either, all we can do is keep faith with what Our Lord asks of us, so for the OP, keep doing what you are doing and remember it is not you they hate, it is the one who judged and hurt them in the past.

The devil hates God's people. Why are Jews hated so much? Same thing.
