When you order toast with breakfast

When you order toast with breakfast at a restaurant, should the toast be buttered when you receive it, or should the butter be on the side?

Rather not. I hate butter. I'm glad they don't do that anymore nowadays. For ages you couldn't eat bread with an office meeting or at the gas station, cause they only had sandwiches with butter, but nowadays they use mayonaise or just nothing, which is fabulous. I remember the days I forgot to take my own food, I'd just eat a half one, when they put it on one side and threw the other half away. Disgusting stuff.

Toast should be on the side because it could become too soggy as they carry it out.
