According to scripture, Lord Jesus was a young child when the wise men arrived at Bethlehem.

Matthew 2:9
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

And Herod killed all the boy children 2 years old and younger.

Matthew 2:16
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

Since Joseph and Mary had their home away from Bethlehem and had to travel to Bethlehem for the census and since the wise men came when they were in a house but the house was in Bethlehem it seems likely that it was not very long after the birth of the Lord. Maybe a few weeks.

Yes that's what I thought.

Good stuff (as usual)....

The coming of the Wise Men is CELEBRATED on January 6. But there's never been any claim that that's when they actually came. Scripture simply doesn't say.

The point that Herod orders the death of boys 2 and under only implies he wanted to be sure this Child wasn't missed. It probably means that at least he understood the Child could not be older than that.... the Child certainly could have been much younger than that.

I think we can guess that Jesus was anywhere between 1 day and 2 years old when the Wise Men arrived.

January 6th :eek:veralls:

No january 12th I heard, 2 years later, epiphany day. I had never heard of it. One explanation said Herod inquired from the wise men so he was 2 years old. Could be but not really convincing. If He was 2 I think to be sure Herod would have killed them 3 and under that. That pharao did that too. Wasn't Moses a few months? Oh well. I won't crash the party.

Sorry but I just double checked my churches calendar and it says Epiphany January 6th @ 7:00pm MST. BOOYAH! That's equivalent to empirical evidence by internet forum standards. Lol!

But seriously we are planning on attending that previously mentioned service. The pastor is very fact based and a great teacher. If he says anything worth sharing I'll report back afterwards.

It's unlikely that Blessed Mary and saint Joseph stayed in Bethlehem for two years after the birth of the Lord.

As thought it was the day Jesus was born and the Wise Men decided to give Him those gifts.

truth is we dont know but we do know that the wise men traveled from the east, no cars and long distance took time to cover along with a stop at Herods, we also know that Jerod killed all the bebies 2 and under. Allowing for time to pass between the visit and when Herod realized he was tricked I would assume, yes no proof that Jesus was about a year old butof course this can all be wrong

Not very likely is it? Besides the Holy Family fled for Egypt as soon as the wise men visited so there was no time to go house shopping with the gold from the wise men.

:;-D:
I should read my Bible more.
Somehow I had the idea they were poor, but they only had to stay in the manger because there was no room for them.
