A solitaire is usually a setting with one stone in it. A diamond refers to the gemstone.

I can't really distinguish solitaire from diamond, but I think they are the same thing. Except solitaire ring has only one piece mounted. My friend receive a 1-carat diamond ring last month, she said that's a solitaire ring.

Diamonds are a kind of gemstones. Solitaire diamond is one of the setting. I don't really like solitaire because it would make the diamond look smaller, if it doesn't have a perfect cut. But solitaire diamond ring won't go tacky. It's a timeless style for diamond rings.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I just wanted to make it clear what I was trying to say.

how much is a 2 carat diamond?
Depends on the quality of diamond. For loose diamond, normally from $8000-$50000. Diamond ring price goes higher. If you want a 2 carat diamond ring, it would be more than $10000, despends on what brand you're gonna choose.

Solitaire doesn't necessarily make a diamond look smaller, it depends on the diamond.

If you've got what used to be called an illusion set diamond you can make a truly tiny diamond look bigger than it is. And if you've got the kind of rock that professional sports players buy their wives there's not much that will make it look smaller.
