What is an acceptable time in your neighborhood to start making noise such as running a snow blower, lawnmower, weed whacker, etc...? I usually tell my husband 8AM on weekdays and 9AM on weekends.

We got 2 inches of snow overnight and the lady next door started the snow blower at 6AM!!!! Then she started her car at 6:30 and let it warm up for a HALF HOUR. Ridiculous.

For me personally I say 8 am but if someone has to go to work then you have to make allowances. It irritates me with lawn mowers and those wonderful people that think a loud car equates to fast but all they really are is annoying. We got snow but it was only a skiff, I swept it off.

I think it depends on the situation. I dislike being woke up by anyone who is running machinery outside no matter what the situation. But after something like snow, even during a snow storm they could be out cleaning at midnight if it warrants the effort, I can understand. But mowing the lawn at 7AM is a no-no. Especially if they do it every week. But let’s say there is flooding, I can understand loud pumps running all night. I wake up at 3:45AM Monday through Friday and I try to leave the house by 5:15AM, if my driveway is buried with snow and I am going to try to get out, that snow-blower will fire up at 5AM. I have to get to work. Now if I can get down my driveway without having to snow-blow, it can wait until I get home from work.

I totally agree! We have both in my neighborhood. "Lawnmower man" who mows his lawn almost every day! It irritates me when he does it on Saturday or Sunday afternoon when I'm either entertaining in the backyard or just trying to take a nap on the pool deck. Then there is the guy across the field that has the loudest car ever, and he sits there in his driveway revving it up. Funny thing, we have professional race car drivers who are supper quiet that live across the street. During the racing season I see the trailers and trucks pull up early in the morning if I'm out, but I never hear them, and they're gone quickly without making noise.

Unless your car is an antique, there is no real reason to warm it up more than momentarily. But people do what they always have done.

Many people here at the office start their vehicles from within the building to warm them up. But I think it's to have a warm car in the winter and a cool car in the summer. I don't have that luxury, so I freeze for about 5 minutes down the road. :drive:

.... seems reasonable.

I have more issues on the other end (because I'm "early to bed and early to rise").... IMO, the loud outdoor party and noise needs to END at 9:00 on weekdays and 10:00 on weekends. Yeah, I confess.... I'm an old soul.

I don't start mowing the lawn until 9am on the weekends and only mow the lawn in the afternoon during the week after returning home from work.

Now we have two neighbors that are partyers. The ones directly behind us always shut it down by midnight on the weekends which is cool being when you live in the city we have to tolerate each other to one extent or another. But the ones kind of kitty corner behind us have literally partied until the sun comes up. And they are outside the whole time and the sound really carries. I'm at the point that at the strike of midnight I report them to the cops.

When my daughter moved out here to the country with us it took her a while to get used to the quiet. She went back to where she used to live after Christmas and said she forgot how noisy it was! Her dream is to live in the nearby city but I bet she struggles with the noise there! I remember working in the city not too far from a hospital and we heard sirens all day long from the ambulances. I couldn't live there.

I also like noise to die down in the evenings. My husband gets up early for work and doesn't want the neighbors playing loud music until 10PM.

If it boils down to picking one over the other, I guess I pick the sounds of a distant party than the noise of weed-whackers, snowblowers, mowers, tree-trimming, and leaf blowers.

Not me. We have a high school that isn't far away and we're in the country so sound travels. When they have their pep rallies it gets really loud and is annoying to hear the music until 10PM. I'd rather hear the hum of a lawn mower than their music.

:cheer: By "distant party" I meant music that isn't hurting my ear drums (not beating dance music) and the sound of people enjoying themselves. Definitely not pep drums beating in some sort of mix/match cadence and kids yelling and screaming. Give me the gas leaf blower at 6AM. :smashfreakb:

I usually figure "live and let live". People have to do what they have to do. I work from home so if the driveway is covered in snow I don't care, chances are I won't even go out and clear it until the afternoon. I'm the kind of person who might not get up until 9 or 10, but might still be working at 1am. On the other hand if you have to be at work by 7 and the driveway is covered in snow then you need to clear the snow.

It's nice not being joined on to a neighbor's place, it means I can run my angle grinder whenever I want and for as long as I want. I used to live in a townhouse and for a time my neighbors were antisocially noisy. I wish I'd had my angle grinder then, I could have given them a taste of their own medicine.

I would ideally wait until after 8 am to start doing any lawn work outside. But, I guess it also depends on how close you are to your neighbors
