TL;DR
Martha Mckay forgave the man who murdered her mom and cousin 24 years before, visited him in prison and, upon release, offered him and his mother jobs. He returned to doing drugs and killed her. Chased by the police, he jumped into a lake and drowned.

Martha was a Buddhist and believed in forgiveness.

What are your thoughts on these events from a Christian perspective?

This was a case of offering forgiveness without any evidence of repentance on the one who did wrong. This man did what he thought was right and has not changed him mind hence why he did it again. The only thing this lady did by offering what she thought was forgiveness was giving this man an opportunity to continue doing evil to her which ultimately ended in her own death as well as his own

Repentance isn't about atoning for one's own wrongdoings as it means changing one's mind by seeing how you see the evil you did and seeing it for the evil it was instead of the good or justified actions that you thought they were when you did it.

From my perspective the woman acted as Christ taught and lived in this scenario. I can't agree with the poster above me. Even being nailed to a cross after suffering torture and humiliation and being taunted, Christ said "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do".
