Well, there weren't books until the late First or early Second Century... but there was writing before that, going back some 6,000 + years.

As for the Bible, it depends much on your view of its writing. The Pentateuch is considered the oldest part of the Bible. IF you hold that Moses penned all the words of the Pentateuch (and none of it previously existed) then the oldest part of the Bible is FAR from the oldest written material.
