They are ramping up militarily and rattling the sword. Personally I think they want to rebuild the old soviet empire and the US had better wake up soon to the threat that they pose. ISIS is a real threat but not the only one and they need tio deal with this now because later may be to late

Believe me the US has an eye on them, too.

well I think the USA and the European Union aren't gonna do a whole lot until they start fighting too much. I mean seeing what happened in Ukraine it's not like they can do a whole lot about it unless they fight back which they don't want.

I mean yeah they froze some money etc. but not like that is gonna have impact on our dear leaders in Russia.. I mean they don't get less food.

We cannot police the entire world...we are already being bankrupted because we make war on so many futile fronts. And what do we get for our efforts? We naturally get the hatred of the people whose nations we storm and drop bombs. It is a lose-lose proposition, IMHO.

What is really a losing proposition is waiting until a country or movement gets strong enough to carry the fight to us and it is approaching that point with a couple of things like ISIS. I would have thought that this country and the people would have learned a lesson from WW2. Isolationists won the day until Japan attacked us.

I'm not saying nothing should be done, but it would be nice if we weren't left to do 95% of it. And as long as we are willing to do that, other nations will sit back and allow us to shoulder the burden.

I was born in Ukraine and speak Russian (came to U.S. at 16).
I think we have everything backwards about it.

Russia has done nothing to us or Europe for us to react.
According to Obama we are the ones who 'brokered' the change of government (a bloody revolution) in Ukraine.
Russia took Crimea without a single bullet because everyone there is Russian and they voted to become a part of Russia.
And Ukraine just gave it up because it never belonged to them.
Russia had to take Crimea after the illegal change of government in Ukraine because the Russian fleet is at the Black Sea and Crimea was one of it's ports during Soviet era.
And Biden's son Hunter currently has a top position in the biggest Ukrainian gas company. (No one knew about that, correct? Just google it :))
Talking about conflict of interest.

We lie way too much.

Doublemint, do you feel that Russia is attempting to build another Soviet Union?
There is no Soviet Union (it's a good thing it is gone). There can never be one because the foundation of Soviet Union is atheism.
At this time Russia is the most religiously conservative country in a geo-political context.

What Russia is trying to do is to establish a union with other countries that is economically based.
It is something like BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, Spain) economic union.
BRICS would have their own Central Bank.
(At this time every country except N.Korea has own individual central bank. Now they would have a "Central" central bank. Since the 70' economic approach of countries changed dramatically, but that's another topic)

After the Berlin Wall went down we agreed with Russia (Gorbachev) that NATO would not expand it's borders.
Instead NATO began expanding it's borders even though USSR is no more.
Gorbachev in a way betrayed his own country and Yeltsin gave away it's resources and gave way to Jewish Oligarchs (a branch of world economic 'mafia').
Meanwhile after the collapse of the USSR old people were starving in Russia. Very sad picture.

And now we incited (or 'brokered', as Obama said) the illegal revolution in Ukraine and made the NATO (against their will) to impose sanctions on Russia. NATO never wanted to impose sanctions. They loved trading with Russia.
Russia in turn imposed own sanctions on Europe and they are suffering at this time a heck of a lot more than Russia is.

(Our trade with Russia is 40 billion dollars/yr, so we don't care that much; Europe's trade with Russia is 400 billion dollars).

When USSR collapsed we became the only super-power in the world.
So we had an unusual amount of wars and military conflicts. Under Clinton alone we had 7 major conflicts including bombing a European capital Belgrade for 30 days straight. We went war crazy.
And war is great business.
You destroy a country then give them a loan to rebuild it and they pay you interest forever.
Once we own your economy we own your politics.

Germany was paying their WWII loans for many years! Amazingly they paid everything up. That is why I kind of expect Germany to start moving away from us and re-establishing the economic ties with Russia. They no longer "owe" us.

OK, so now we do not want Russia or China to become strong because then we would not have the freedom to run the world as freely as we are.

These are the economic wars. And these are the dirtiest wars imaginable. Lies upon lies. Propaganda. No honor.
This means we are losing and playing dirty.

The reason many countries turn to Putin because he still uses old economic style - your word is your bond. A handshake.
Even Clinton said in an interview that Putin never went back on his word.
And this is immensely important.

... let me stop, I talk too much.

Some very good points but I still have a feeling that Russia has grand designs on other countries yet

Of course. :)
But the flavor is different.

It is an economic agreement. Freedom to agree. No more wars as well as a freedom of Christianity.
Economic agreements (not economic dictatorship) is the best thing we can possibly have on this Earth.

We are currently lacking in both of these areas yet pretending we love it as is.
Who are we fooling? Ourselves? God? :)

Do you blame them though for having some military ambition? What country doesn't?

OK, but how do you or I know what anyone's true colors are?
It is like waiting for someone who is evil (because someone told us he is evil) to get evil. :)
We are waiting for 15 years for Putin to show his "true colors". :)

And 90% of Russians approve of him ... WHILE the country is going though financial difficulties.

So think about it - after 15 years his approval rating now reached 90%. This is unheard of.
Every U.S. President's approval rating slides as time goes on.
And if our economy is not doing great - approval rating is in the dumps.

With Putin approval rating grows while economy is struggling.

Guess what ... maybe whatever our media is telling us about the big bad Russians ... is wrong?

Thanks, :)

It wouldn't be the first time the media stretched the truth would it? What are the news sources saying outside of the United States that would be more helpful for showing us what we're seeing in the wrong way because of our media here?

Or else maybe people are afraid to voice dissent?

As an Australian Christian I am certainly thankful that the Russian Federation has decided to intervene into Syria; hopefully they can salvage the mess that the US (along with NATO and even Australia) has created, though it may be too late to repair the damage that we have created in that part of the world. I can understand that the US is not all that happy with how the Russians are knocking out the Islamo-terrorists that the US has both backed, trained and armed.

The damage has been caused by the muslims, lets get it right and praise Russia all you wish, but they are not the savior you seem to think they are
