Why is it that everything must become so complicated? No wonder those outside the church want no part of it. Either you believe or you dont real simple not twisted and turned every which way trying to turn everything into a debate and concern, it really is that simple
The real debate is whether man initiates faith or whether God initiates faith.
Where does faith come from?
I believe the Bible says that faith comes from God.

Yes, to every man a measure of faith is given, bible says that. So yes it comes from God but we have a duty having it to grow it, so man has his part as well.

.... so we are responsible for what we DO with the divine gift of faith, but not with creating faith and giving it to self? If so, I agree.

Faith is proven by our works

In modern Christendom we often hear - "The righteous shall live by faith."
Many apply this as meaning if they have "faith" in God or in Jesus, that they are "righteous" because of their professed faith. And 'faith' is often defined as a 'mental assent' to something or belief in God.

The verse actually appears first in the OT writing of Habakkuk, and a more accurate translation would be -

“Look at the proud: he is inwardly not upright;
but the righteous will attain life through trusting faithfulness."

- Hab 2:4 CJB

The word translated "faith" in some translations of Hab 2:4, or "faithfulness" as is here, is the Hebrew word - אֱמוּנָה ('emuwnah), meaning - firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, steadiness

So, yes, as some have already pointed out in this thread - Biblical "faith" is a complete trust in God through all circumstances; a diligence in following Him; and an obedience to His will and ways, which is proven by our righteous behavior, the very works that we do. I'm sure to get some flak on this, but remember... those who are "proud" that they are 'saved' apart from having to be obedient or faithful to God in their deeds (by walking in repentance and taking up their cross), the Scripture says... "inwardly they are not upright", meaning not is right-standing with God.

Just some things to chew on.

Peace & Blessings to all!
