I mean what do you think about killing each other over religious principles, scripture, holy books readings?

I'm a passive person so I don't like the idea of anyone killing another human. We're all created in God's image and so to kill another human to me means killing His image as well.

They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.3*And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.

I'm against murdering people. I don't even like the idea of the killing of animals (I even wouldn't kill the mouse in the house at Christmas) - although I plead hypocrisy on that since I eat meat (LOL).

Self defense, just war - those are other issues (not murder). BTW, I understand the Hebrew in the commandment "Thou shall not kill" is actually "thou shall not murder" - a different issue.

I am opposed to capital punishment, although not for biblical reasons since I believe Scripture does permit it.

Killing people because of religious ideology is imho wrong, but,in the OT it was allowed.

Why would any right-thinking Christian have an opinion favourable to that?

You're absolutely right! God commanded His people to kill because He was setting aside His people where the Savior would be born from that line. There is no longer a need for that an no demands from God have been made to make similar slaughterings today.

Thank you for your replies thus far. I meant to include killing in war or self defense.

This is true, and may I add that in the Old Testament, God was perfectly willing to pronounce judgment on sin when He saw fit, but since Jesus has come, He bides His time, offering His immense mercy toward sinners for the sake of His Son who is building His Church.

I wonder if we had no religion in the world would there be as much killing? People all over kill for the reason of "an eye for an eye". And other religions besides Christian have holy wars and there have been holy wars all throughout history. If someone kills I don't believe it is right to kill them instead confine them for the rest of their life or a good portion of it depending on the circumstances.

Some of the most mass killings weren't even because of religion (eg Stalin).
