Salem Lake.jpgWhat do you tend to do when your stressed out? What helps you relax and let your stress go?
I read a lot and sometimes I go for walks. I will either walk around the neighborhood or sometimes go to a nearby greenway or trail. There is a really nice one next to a lake that is 7.2 miles long that I have walked before.

I sing. Music is very calming but singing lets me release any stress, fear, anger, etc... It's very expressive.

Playing music is great for reducing stress. We had a Native American festival locally last weekend and my sister and I were able to buy some wood flutes.

I use to do that more often, now I stress eat. Which might be why I have gained about 7 pounds this year already

Very peaceful lake! One thing I miss about Michigan are all the lakes and parks, although I'm starting to discover a number of them out here. I went for a drive a few days ago, and found a really peaceful lake (during the week, anyway - it's in a Provincial park), but there are some river trails as well. But to relax, coffee is my best friend. There's a spot not far from me that I go to often. I find doing that keeps me occupied, too - outside of myself.
I'm also addicted to Microsoft solitaire :)

I do not deal with stress well.

What I mean by this is that I am usually passive about a person/situation where I do not know how to deal with the stress. I put up with it and it builds. And builds. Until the point where I must act because if I let it build any more I am more likely to do something I will regret.

The last situation I had major stress that I didn't even know the extent of caused me to do 2 things. 1 - confrontation. That worked with the first person. Not so much the second person and since the 2nd person was my employer I had to leave. The situation was becoming unbearable.

I honestly did not know the extent of my stress until I did leave.

I can relate to that. ten years ago I was in a position where I have become very bitter and stressed out and it started to affect my health. I didn't realize in the moment how unhappy I was untiil I left. I always say it is easier to go from somewhere to somewhere else than nowhere to somewhere, so if possible I encourage people who have job problems not to quit until you have something else lined up. I quit without something and it took about 9 months to get back on track

Alleviating stress has become an industry money maker with services and products catering to individuals who need aid and that can be in the form of pills, baths, massages, music, vacations or even food products but for me I do prefer to step aside from stressful situations and be alone. Only then can I take a deep breath and pray and whether or not my stress is instantly removed or removed later on, I find it to be a method that works for me and gives me peace.

My main stress factor comes from trying to deal with people that just don't get what I'm talking about after they ask a question then totally ignore the reply you give them, so best thing to do then is just say whatever and leave close down the net and watch tv...lol works for me everytime..

My Mom loves it when my Dad is stressed.......

When he is, Dad obsessively cleans everything in sight and/or does yard work. If the stress is sufficient and persistent, everything in the house shines and the cars glisten and the whole yard is neat and trim (in fact, if the stress is really great, all the bushes get trimmed within an inch of their life, severely OVER trimmed). Why, one time, he cleaned out all the kitchen cabinets and put in new shelf paper - all in one evening. Then his life returns to normal and Mom has to clean things again (and she's not NEARLY as good at it).

More productive than me..... I just go to the fitness center and work up a good long sweat (accomplishing nothing).
