It would just be guessing since the Bible isn't clear about that.

He preached the gospel to the lost. He let them know He was the Messiah

I think the text says he "preached." What? It doesn't say. Why? It doesn't say. What else? It doesn't say.

Per Ephesians 4:8 "Wherefore HE saith, When HE ascended up on high, HE led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men." HE took those on the Paradise side of Hades up into Heaven, since "It was finished." As HE told us in the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus, there were those waiting with Abraham (those who died in CHRIST looking for the coming of their MESSIAH) for the fulfillment of the MESSIAH's coming The gifts are explained in various places in Scripture.

Jesus preached the gospel to those who sinned in the days of Noah. And it says that he “led captivity captive.”

Sounds to me that Jesus paid the bail to get them out of jail.

He got them out of hell, and brought them to heaven.

Lost me.... Ephesians 4:8 never so much as even mentions Jesus' activities between His death and resurrection....

This is an interesting article.. as I was thinking today that if the thief were to be in paradise that day, the man has not yet ascended and is still buried, so where is he?
It suggest that Jesus was buried in the grave and thus totally inactive nor aware thus did no preaching nor did he deliver the good news to the dead.. The article states that the comma was added by translators but was not in the original greek format.

Isn't this the SDA and JW view?

On a side note I find it's a shame that we use the word Hell to describe the grave as a fiery place of torment, the Lake of fire certainly is, but if the grave is the realm of the dead, what realm exists as completely void?
Tartarus, Sheol, Gehenna, the Grave, the Pit, Hades, Abrahams Bosom/paradise are all rendered "Hell" according to the KJV :/

First, those souls to whom Christ preached were in Paradise awaiting the Messiah; it's also called the Bosom of Abraham and is not Hell, the place of the lost.. The notion that he would have preached the Gospel to those who were eternally estranged from God doesn't make sense on several levels.

Second, we know that he preached to these souls, but not that he did so for the whole of three days and three nights (if that is implied by the question).

Jesus descended into Abraham's Bosom/Paradise but the RCC states specifically that he descended into "Hell".. Abraham's Bosom/Paradise is in Hades but the Righteous side of Hades, would you agree that using the word "Hell" to describe "paradise" a bit of a loose translation?
I believe it draws up much confusion, perhaps Jerome should have just left in the original Greek words used instead of rendering them all Hell, which the Church has always described as being a fiery place of torment.. do you agree?
Not to get too far off the subject, just wanted to confirm this as you put it "..called the Bosom of Abraham and is not Hell.."

Jesus in John chapter 5 suggest that those who believe in the one who sent Him and hears Him words WILL (present tense) have everlasting life and shall pass from death unto life..
After this He says that the time is soon approaching (foreshadowing His burial) that ALL who are in the grave (buried) shall hear His Voice and those who have done good shall resurrect unto everlasting life while those who have done evil shall resurrect unto damnation..

Jesus is saying that the living (literally those alive then and those alive now) who hear and believes will be saved, but the dead will soon hear His voice [ALL the dead will hear His voice when he descends into the grave] and shall come forth either in everlasting life or damnation according to their works they have done while alive..

At least that's how I read it.. so much is revealed in these few passages, but what Jesus is telling his accusers is that he has the authority to judge all because he is both the Son of God and the Son of man and All shall hear his voice and stand before him after death..

So did he preach to the dead in Hades? Or Judge the wicked and deliver good news to the righteous?

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" John 5:24-29

Notice he leaves out the Day of Judgment, but I believe that after death there is no linier time but simply THE judgment, for those who are alive to see this "great and terrible" day and who have believed will not see death but those who remain unbelieving upon His return shall face the 2nd death, the resurrection unto eternal damnation in the lake of fire..
