Over the last few years, I have been to many churches and heard a lot of sermons. It seems like to me that most of the sermons aren't even as deep as a 3rd grade Sunday School lesson. It seems most pastors are good at giving their church members milk instead of solid food. It feels like such a waste of my time to go hear a sermon that seems so basic and elementary. I long to hear a good sermon that has some depth to it and makes me think instead of putting me to sleep. I have most recently been to a non demonational church, methodist church and baptist church which are the most prominent churches in the area I am in.

I'm sorry. I don't know what you mean by this
Watered down milktoast sermons let everybody feel good about themselves since they don't upset anyone's sinful lifestyle and that means more people attending and more people attending means lots and lots of money coming in.

I might point out that Jesus never watered down his sermons and teachings for any reason, even when they led to his death.

Have you considered approaching the pastor to see if they will let you preach?

Let me ask you two questions:

What do YOU consider milk?

What do YOU consider meat?

It seems like many people are going for the music and a "feel good" experience.

What do you consider to be a "good" sermon?

My aunt went to church her whole life and told at an old age she still didn't understand the Bible and that someone told her you needed the spirit to understand it.

OK, so why so many years of "not getting it"?

Sad but true. A lot of what passes for "worship music" these days is very repetitive, theologically thin (and sometimes empty or outright toxic), and frequently focuses on us rather than on God.

Some sermons can feel almost like a pep talk or a motivational speech.
