There most definitely is water on Mars. If this isn't proof I don't know what is:

I just wonder....if there is water on Mars why no atmosphere? What is the source of the water? Could this be something new?

Mars does have an atmosphere, it's just about as thick as that of the Earth at 100,000 ft. above sea level. It is my understanding that the atmosphere on Mars was once more substantial, but once Mars lost its magnetic field, the natural shielding such a field provides against the solar wind was lost and so the atmosphere was largely stripped away.

That is a very interesting topic. Makes me wonder a lot of things.
