Volunteering

Does anyone here do volunteering for their Lutheran (or other) church? I’m trying to get to know more people at mine and so I helped our head pastors‘ wife decorate our annual flowered crosses and she recently called me and asked if I wanted to help a small group of church members decorated for VBS. We’re going to be painting stuff. I start tomorrow and am looking forward to it. Anyone else?

I used to live 6 minutes from my previous church and I was there practically every night doing something or participating somehow. When we moved my new church is now about 35-50 minutes away so I don't go there as often...and that means I don't volunteer as much either. I do a seasonal choir although covid stopped that for now and I'm President of our LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League).

They started a small library that's located near the parking lot and I bought a lot of books to help fill that up. I'll try to keep up with changing out the books whenever I'm there.

I don't see myself volunteering to do too much at this church because of the drive and in the winter it's awful since they don't plow the streets until AFTER the snow has finished falling. It's ridiculous.

Wow, you’ve got a long drive to go to church. I’m spoiled. We lived close to the church I grew up in...I used to walk there and to school there. More recently, our subdivision is across from my old Catholic church and now we live about 4 or 5 minutes away from my new church, too.

I was involved in the Knights of Columbus at my old Parish, I intend on becoming active with them again when my annulment is processed. The Knights tend to do a fair amount of community work and general things at the church around the year. My recent ELCA church did not really have a lot of options for people, it was a fairly small church and the spots were taken by people that had been there for decades or the events were held during the work day.
