Is there any verse from the bible that you initially thought meant something different than what you know it means now?

Not so much something I thought meant something different, but a church I attended a few times liked to present Job 22:28 - "you will declare a thing and it will be established for you" - and use it as justification to declare and decree things expecting them to come to pass.

Although Job 22:28 says exactly what they said, in context it means anything but the way they were using it.

1 Timothy 2:15 She shall be saved in child bearing. In Dutch it's written like women go to heaven if they give birth, which makes no sense at all. Would be a pity for the barren women. There are still Dutch women who believe that. Saw one on a Dutch reformed forum.
