Not all babies are beautiful so what do you say that doesn't insult the parents?

I loosely know a couple with seven kids, of which precisely none were even remotely cute. I learned the art of strategic silence....

Never found newborns to be all that cute, but usually they improve with time.

You don't need to comment about the aesthetics of the baby. The parents are happy, share in their joy. A sincere comment about the parents "you look so happy" or "I'm so happy for you" is great.
