What's' the worst vacation you've been on and what made it so bad?

Attempt to make Califorina and fell short by a couple states after 2 days down in Denver for a bad fuel pump (motorhome), and then a half day down in Colorado for bad ignition that boiled down to a badly needed tune up.

Atlantic City, NJ. The beach was filthy with garbage strewn all over the place. The rides looked like they were held together with duct tape. Every place you went, you would run into beggars asking for money.

I guess I've been mostly pretty lucky. The worst vacation experience I've had was when a trip that was mostly outdoors coincided with a lot of rain. When you're planning a walk and the weather forecasts says "sunny spells", and you find there was a single sunny spell between the heavy rain and the monsoon-style rain, it gets a bit tedious. But with outdoor activity comes an expectation to dress appropriately, which meant lots of waterproof stuff for that trip. We went hiking in the heavy rain, with waterproof pants, waterproof jackets and a rain poncho.

Yep, I had a couple of those rain, rain, rain vacations. One in a motorhome that leaked so we discovered on the trip.

On, on another vacation we got infested with hundreds of ticks. Oh that was bad. We gave the dog some of that tick stuff you drip on the back of the neck, systemic, and hours later dozens of ticks dropped off of her. It was horrible. It was at a campground in Missouri, and the camp office never mentioned it to us--thanks a bunch! We would have skipped walking the trail with the 6-inch grass that housed the ticks. Here in Michigan I never get ticks and I used to bushwack a lot especially in field classed during forestry school back in the 1980s, and I only recall a couple of ticks ever.
