Well, if the sentiment is sincere, it's misguided. As a Vegan, I
am not in favor of industry putting together chemical concoctions made
to represent (in taste only) meat products. In my view, they might be good
for someone who is transitioning to a vegan diet, but that's it.
Don't expect great health depending on it.
And in the case of this burger, expect to go hungry, or need a meal
shortly after.
The burger (the patty) has 0 fiber. Red flag #1. I understand,
neither do meat burger patties. That's not the point. When you go vegan,
you start to replace the bacteria that feeds off meat and animal fat
in the colon with the beneficial kind that feeds on primarily fiber - fiber from
whole foods.
This fiber (along with vitamins and minerals in whole foods) actually
produces propionate. Propionate is responsible for feeling satiated or
satisfied after enough food. Meat eaters get it to some extent from
the bacteria in their colons and small intestine that feeds on these
products. However, they don't get as much as vegans do eating an equivalent
amount of whole food that is fiber rich.
One of the big reasons new Vegans fail is that they think only in
terms of "Vegan" and "calories". If they are eating processed crap (or
too much of it), especially processed foods that are very low in fiber,
high in salt (actually increases hunger) and high in vegetable oils (provides no fiber,
no minerals and no B vitamins)...
then they are starving their gut bacteria of what it needs to produce
satiety and the feeling of satisfaction from food.
I am in favor of real whole food plant based burgers, but for the
aforementioned reasons I see gimmicks like these as bad for Veganism
and the Vegan message. People are going to feel hungry after eating
this garbage, and that's not good.
